Here it is! Just to show that we ALL have to start somewhere!!:) Just like looking at my first day at school (just not so traumatic!!)

So for any NEWBIES out there who THINK that they are asking silly questions and haven't a clue about hats or vintage wear, but have a 'gut feeling' that they just love them....well...take encouragement in this, that when I joined I knew 'very, very little' but had bags of enthusiasm and a taste for learning (and using the great SEARCH button on here for topics!).

Newbie from the UK says 'hello.'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi there guys! I came across this Forum by accident while looking for a Fedora hat. Anyway, I'm glad I did, because I am extrememly impressed by the whole layout of the website, the topics of conversation and I generally got a good feeling about it all. So here I am!

As there wasn't a section for new people to make a first intro, I just chose the WW2 one, as that's my penchant, vintage aviation jackets and wear.

For the last 3 or 4 years, I have been an avid member of two Yahoo vintage groups, VintageleatherjacketsII and The 20th Century. So some might know me from there (and I'm still there!).

As I'm still working out how to post my own head and shoulders shot up on the board with my name, I'll attach a pic here (if I can) and give you a weblink to some of my vintage aviation gear (repro and mostly original).

I am based in the UK up on the Scottish borders, but every so often do head south to civilization, such as this July for the vintage FLYING LEGENDS show at Duxford in Cambridgeshire.

I look forward to becoming an active and I hope useful contributor to this forum, and my search for that Fedora continues.

Kindest Regards, PADDY (Middleton).

My first post, and the second post ever on this iteration of the Lounge (outside of testing posts, which were deleted) was:

"Yep, you can definitely tell it's a thin felt."
9/27/2003

The Lounge was in existence before that, but it was on a free message board that didn't work very well. I think it was sometime in spring of 03 when MK created the Lounge as a board.

Here was #1... still my favorite hat

Late 1800s Campaign hats

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Glad to be new to the lounge! As you can see from the avatar I chose, I wondered if anyone else had an interest in the military campaign hats of the Indian Wars/Spanish American War period. They seem to me to be very Fedora-like, albeit closer to cowboy/western wear. I have purchased a couple of hats off e-bay, a Dobbs Twenty Ranger, and a Resistol generic hat and modified both with a front to back crease at the crown, a 5/8 grosgrain ribbon with that unique bow you see in the avatar shot, of an original 1883 campagn hat, and even hand-stitched three rows along the edge. Wondered if anyone else had some vintage hats in their collections, however highly unlikely of which they could post some pictures. From what I've seen of photos of originals, the Stetson Open Road looks like a direct descendant from the period. Hoping to purshase one some day just to enjoy as it is.

Hi Folks,

I'm new to this forum and just want to say hello to everyone. I'm interested in vintage flight jackets, mainly G-1s, MA-1s and L-2bs from the Vietnam era, but I also like current issue A-2s.

I see that some of my friends from another forum are here. They are good guys who possess a wealth of knowledge about flight jackets. If they like the Fedora Lounge, I know there must be good people over here! I look forward to meeting everyone.

09.08.2006. Something about a white RAF pilot sweater...Never got it though. But found another one, just as nice.
But that was also the start of a beautifull relationship with so many fantastic people from all over the world :)

My first post was about finding some info about a Stetson fedora I have. Glad I found the Lounge. It has been and is a great place. Thanks to everyone.

Found it!

A romantic, first to last:

Armstrong's version is excellent.

My all time favorite dim the lights and c'mere piece is Nat King Cole's "Paradise." Not easy to find, but well worth the search. Lots of strings, slow, soft delivery that turns pretty ordinary lyrics into hubba-hubba:

"And then she holds my hand
And then I understand
Her eyes of fire
with one desire
then a heavenly kiss... could I resist?
And then she dims the lights
And then I hold her tight...
... she takes me to paradise."

Great stuff. Serve with a pitcher of martinis.

Of course, I'd have to edit m'self now. :)

thought I would mix it up a bit. I used to be sandysfancy but changed my name. Doesn't matter anymore. I changed it for business purposes and didn't want to look like I was spamming.
I think it went much further back but this is as far as I was able to go with search. lol

So what was your first post? How long ago? Did you lurk for eons first or jump in head first?

Found it...

On 7/10/07 (has it really only been a year? I am so entrenched here now I feel like I have been here for decades!):

My first post ever in the Lounge!
I am a newbie here, so pardon me if my reply here doesn't end up in the "What magazines do you read" thread!
Modern mags: Harpers, This Old House, Old House Interiors
Old mags: Delineator (I have the entire decade of 1926 - 1937), Vanity Fair, Vogue, anything from the 30s.
