First season of the Finnish TV series Deadwind. Usual Euro TV...good acting, good production values but the plot was over the 12 episodes....all over the map. Way too many plot lines, overlap, coincidence, but the two leads were cute and engaging.

I understand these shows need to include elements of romance, but they're so haphazard about it. Why are these people obsessed with each other? When did that happen? And then last night's episode had a huge jump in plot that pretty much came out of nowhere because of one of these unexplained, undeveloped obsessions. This show is similar to Poldark in how it wastes too much time on Teen Beat poster posing moments or riding a horse on a trail or another grandiose carriage arrival at a palace. And then they're following up the episodes with interviews with the creator, crew, and actors. The sales pitch is "she's the most creative person I've ever met" or "she's a genius", and I'm thinking, "That rubber never hits the road."

Appreciate the update. It sounds like we made the right choice in bailing after two episodes. Some shows develop and get better overall time, so we are willing to stay with some, but this one seemed sloppy in general and so in love with its virtue signaling that we just said "out" after two episodes.

Finishing off season two of Fear the Walking Dead shortly to catch the girls (wife and daughters) up, and the wife and I are reviewing Sons of Anarchy, closing in on the end of season two of that as well. It has been long enough that certain details have escaped my memory.

Two words for this season: Henry Rollins.

Hear hear! I like most of the actors who were in Sons and I really wanted to like it, but after three or four episodes I felt like I was watching The Sopranos on bikes and I hated that show so I bailed out.

I think my moment on SOA was when they're chasing after baby Abel on a dock and trying to get to the boat before it leaves. I realized it was basically a soap opera about a biker gang. I watched after that episode but it never was the same.

I lioked the show a lot, except for the series set in Belfast which ,though it had some nice scenery, also committed a lot of the very worst American Television Sins about Northern Ireland. It grate on me that so few of them had a Belfast accent. I mean, seriously... niety per cent of them were straight outta Dublin. Especially the IRA characters, which was absurd. And speaking of the Ra, the idea that a Northern Ireland MC (assuming such a thing existed - insofar as they did, they were *very* lowp rofile in the Troubles era) would be mixed ("Two of the boys are Loyalists") yet deal with the IRA was probably the most fantastical element of the entire show. Top level leaderships in the Republican and Loyalist movements allegedly used to deal with each other on matters of common interest, but on the ground... gah. An organisation like that would either have been exclusively one sdie or the other, or defiantly and viciously opposed to both. You simply would not have had the level of trust and bonding that an MC like that is supposed to have otherwise.

And the less said about that bloody awful mural in the clubhouse - you know the one, all James Joyce and Oscar Wilde, lifted straight from one of those fiddle-dee-dee Dublin theme pubs designed to distract tourists from realising they're being fleeced at those prices - the better.

On the plus side, the comedy value of seeing the SAMCRO boys wearing UK/EU style open face helmets....

And the other series were great.

Sons wasn't even 1% of the show The Sopranos was. Sons was that terribly written on every level. The characters. The story and subplots. The dialogue. If Kurt Sutter can get show after show put on TV, that reveals you how poor off the writers' situation is in Hollywood. That guy must have some kind of mesmerizing twinkle in his eye or something. I seriously don't understand how he gets any of his scripts beyond the first interview stage. I watched every moment of this stupidly written show, so what does that say about me? I'll let you decide. I think we Americans are more loyal than smart. Maybe start there with your decision.

It took you two full seasons to realize that SOA, like EVERY TV DRAMA EVER MADE, is a soap opera?

"Hamilton" and "The Mandalorian" - Puddin' wanted to see the former and I watched the latter so I'd at least get SOME of my money's worth out of the Disney Plus subscription. Didn't watch the former... found "The Mandalorian" to be "okay". With nods to "Lone Wolf and Cub" and other superior works. One episode was a tired rip-off of "The Seven Samurai" so bad my teeth hurt. Besides the cute (thing that shall NOT be named) what was there in this? After all the kerfuffle I expected my socks to be blown off... they're still firmly attached to my feet. Can't hold a candle to "The Boys".

Well....... guilty! :)
Looking back maybe I did know but was doing (what's it called?) willing suspension of disbelief, lol. But that dock scene put me over the edge I guess. Also the fact that this "badass" biker gang had in that particular scene several members wearing sneakers. Smack forehead emoji goes (here) lol

While I'm venting, the very first episode promised a lot. Glen Plummer played a Sheriff and I really like that guy as an actor, but he was written out of the show soon after, iirc.

The costume people did a lot of consulting with people actually in those organisations; while obviously significant proportions of the plot are fantastical (if memory serves, Jax Teller personally murders over forty people across the seven or eight years in which the show is set), what they wore is actually pretty accurate. Turns out things have changed a lot since Hollister!

First three episodes of "Perry Mason" - I realize that this is an "origin story" for the man that would become a legal legend, crusader for truth, friend to the wrongfully accused and bane to District Attorney's everywhere so I'm rolling with it. Very good thus far... we're totally engaged and the clothing/sets and music are great. At this stage of my life though, I don't stick to anything unless I'm "all in". I mean ride or die. Last program I did this with drove me to the point of madness when after 10 years of faithful watching I got rewarded with 8 episodes of the worst television I'd ever witnessed. I hope and pray they at least stick the landing with this one.

my head is spinning, so many different versions of the same characters, I forgot which is which, some era is also closer so the way they dress is also in the similar fashion.

I never watched GOT until after it was all over, lol. So I didn't suffer like long term fans did at the weak ending.

I want to like this new Perry Mason, I'm in.
But the too frequent "F" bombs! ....and the use of (what I consider) modern sayings as well. "Walk it back?" GTFO, no one said that in 1932. People didn't use the F word as much then, it was considered, "thermo-nuclear." You said that to someone you had a fight on your hands, we've become more or less inurred to it now. From what I've read it was very shocking to use even up into the 50's.

I think the writers are kinda lacking in versimilitude in not coming up with more accurate curse words that were more in use at the time. And the crowd scenes drive me crazy with the lousy self-conscious crosses the extra's take.

But yes, quibbles aside, I'm liking it.
