What was the last TV show you watched?

Started watching Billy Bob Thornton in the "Goliath" series, and just before that I finished up watching an older series with Jim Belushi and Jerry O'Connell called "The Defenders". However I always return to "Penny Dreadful".

More Ozark the past couple of evenings. Only one episode left for this season. What a season it has been. Ben! What a character and an actor; he has been a great addition.

I really thought that Season 2 ended poorly (jumped the shark!) and I was not planning on picking up on Season 3. But with being homebound and watching a lot of TV gave it a go. They really found their writing legs again and the Season was brilliant. Now looking forward to a 4th.

I've been catching up on the HBO miniseries The Plot Against America. It's very well done, but awfully distressing.

"World On Fire" on PBS.

I'm surprised this one hasn't been talked about on FL already, unless I missed it (quite possibly), as it's right in many of our wheelhouses.

I'm one episode in and it starts with, well, the start of WWII when Germany invades Poland. So far, it seems to take a personal perspective on the war as we follow the lives of an "intrepid" American journalist (Helen Hunt), a Polish family (whose daughter is in love with an English Diplomat [they're on the bicycle in the pic] and whose father has shell shock from service in WWI) and that diplomat's family (whose mother wants her son to make an "advantageous" marriage and drop his Polish girlfriend) - phew.

So far, it's only okay, but to be fair, we've seen this before where the first several episodes are set-up until the story can develop; since the period detail are so beautiful (they are really well done), I'm willing to give them that chance.

That said, PBS has a track record of making beautiful-looking period shows with okay - not great - stories and, then, dropping the shows after a couple of season or so - see, "Jam Busters," "Indian Summers" and "Crimson Field -" so who knows if this one will come together / will get the support from PBS it needs or not.

I've mentioned World on Fire and the coming Beecham House a couple times, but only in the context of looking forward to them. I believe World on Fire is only intended to be a 7-part miniseries. I watched the first episode and The Windermere Children a couple days ago. Like you, I wasn't overly impressed with World on Fire. Not to be mean, but Helen Hunt is so full of botox and fillers that there were angles that literally made me think of the movie Mask and how they had Eric Stoltz looking like Rocky Dennis. I wouldn't mention it at all, but it was genuinely distracting. It's too bad that The Windermere Children wasn't a miniseries. I found it very interesting and worthy of more detail and story. I really, really hope Beecham House isn't used only to sell a more premium streaming service or trying to link Hulu, or whatever, to certain PBS content. I'm counting on it making it to general PBS consumption.

Recently finished the series Community. Still don't understand all the praise heaped upon it. For all it's talk of inclusiveness it seemed rather judgmental of it's characters and dragged in the last several seasons. (Especially after half the cast left.) And the relationship between Jeff and Annie was just cringeworthy to watch.

West World Season 3 - Man oh man has this thing gotten interesting. Not just action and futuristic cars but a real examination of humans and the human condition! The best art makes you think and this season has done that in spades. Like when great series are new and innovative you can't wait till next week rolls around to see what happens next!

Saturday night wrapped up Martin Clunes Islands of America, a four-part travelogue visiting Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, Louisiana, and others, focusing on an island and its residents, local culture, and so on.
The week before the it was Martin Clunes Islands of Australia, same format, very enjoyable.

Well, I watched this last year and it looked promising. However, and I'll not give any spoilers, I felt cheeted and disappointed at the end. I hope you feel differently after watching it and it was just me.

The last currently running series that I'm watching is Homeland 8. Three more episodes to go. I love the show but Claire Danes as Carrie Mathison is so manic it's hard to watch at times. What a superb actress she is. The rest of the cast is also superb. It's the last ever series and too be fair I'm glad as it's probably run it's course and maybe should have stopped a while ago. I think she'd have found herself in an orange coverall long before now if any of it was real. I'm sure I'll miss it when it's gone and I hope I'm not left going Aaaagh! like the final Sopranos episode.

Thank you, appreciate the color. While not encouraging, I'll stay with it as I thought episode 2 was better (not great) than episode 1. PBS has very good ideas for series and does a wonderful job with the period details, but often the stories are only okay and get weaker over time. Sounds like WOF will be a typical PBS offering.

Or, I should say, PBS buys the above type of series as I don't know if they actually produce any of their own shows.

We gave up on the show as we tired of Carrie and her antics. We relabelled the show..."Carrie Matheson Doing Stupid Shit....Again."

Almost done with a French TV offering on Netflix...."Bonfire of Destiny". Implausable as all get out but a rollicking good story. With bad guys with evil intent, damsels in distress, good guys sacrificing themselves for said damsels, wonderful production values, and of course the Parisienne street scenes.

Re-watching all of The Last Kingdom based on Bernard Cornwell’s Uhtred books, as a new season arrives April 23rd on Netflix.

We have been watching Peaky Blinders.
My wife did not like it the first time I tried to watch it, so back in the hopper it went. I restarted it a few weeks ago and she is now more absorbed in it than I am.
Not sure it is Boardwalk Empire level for me but it is an enjoyable hour.
