My wife and I just finished watching Good Girls season 2. It’s a great comedy/Drama.
Beth and Annie and their best friend Ruby become fed up with playing by the rules and not getting the respect. They band together to take control of their lives.

Some Messiah, season three of True Detective (finally), and Dracula on Netflix. We are enjoying all three. Well acted and scripted. Dracula although shorter than we wanted, was much more entertaining than expected. It was clever and twistedly humorous. True Detective is more like season one in its quality. Season two wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t asgood as season one.

Yeah.. puddin' and I just finished the series. It needed 10 episodes and a LOT more "world building" being unfamiliar with the game or the books I had a hard time telling who was who and where the hell anyone was. The time jumping story lines didn't help either. I was VERY loathe to watch any more Fantasy, though I feel Witcher is more Sword and Sorcery than straight fantasy, after the absolute debacle that was the last 2 season of GoT but I took a chance. We enjoyed it and can't wait fer more.

We wanted to like it more than we did, but it wasn’t enough for us to really enjoy. That being said, we will give season two a chance when it returns in 2021.

Was that the recent Gatiss / Moffat take on Dracula for the BBC? It's interesting. I loved the first two parts. The third part I suspect Moffat took the reins on the writing - the story is still good, but it suffers badly from the same problem as his Doctor Who run in that therte's a lot of 'ta-dah, isn't this clever?', followed by what felt like a very rushed conclusion. It either needed much better editing, or possibly a fourth episode.

I've enjoyed the first two episodes of the new series of Doctor Who; Chibnall is not everyone's favourite, but while I may still never forgive him Cyberwoman, for me he has certainly brought the show back from the dead after Moffat's ego almost totally destroyed it.

Over on Netflix/Prime, I finished Preacher (very surreal, but a fun ride; some ve3ry clever theological humour in there), and am now well into series 3 of The Americans, which I'm enjoying immensely.

I also watched the first two eps of the new Dracula last night, I'm always up for another take on this classic story. It's not so much a straight adaptation as a series of riffs on the story, or as they like to say now, "a reimagining". It's no masterpiece, but with its many interesting trope subversions and a touch of modern snark (especially in Drac and Van Helsing), it held my interest. I'll get to the third ep soon.

And The Americans... is my favorite dramatic series post-Mad Men. Simply brilliant.

Yes, it was. We too felt that the third episode was too rushed. A fourth or fifth episode would have helped.

Puddin' and I binged "Messiah" and the BBC "Dracula" on the Flix. I was just about to review them both. Messiah was a real mind bender. Just when I thought they wouldn't go there with the subject they went there. Just when I thought one way about the lead he'd up and do something "miraculous"! I don't know if it's coming back but I sure hope so. It's so controversial it's easier to ask who they DIDN'T piss off than to list who they did. It was one crazy show! I don't know how it got greenlit in the first place.

The new Dracula was also a nice piece of work. I like the major character sex change they did and how she was portrayed. Best version of the good Doctor I've seen in a long time. I wasn't a big fan of D's portrayal, he seemed almost to be a barely controlled beast at times but he also knew how to play the game well. Didn't like the last episode at all but all in all we gave it high marks for originality. Ending was a bit ambiguous to say the least.

I was also disappointed in the third episode of Dracula. Not so much by the time jump and the new characters, but by the ultimate explanation it came up with for Dracula's vampirism. No. Just no. But the series was reasonably diverting otherwise.

My wife and I just finished Messiah. It is well written and keeps you guessing as to what will happen next. I felt that 10 episodes was a little short for a season. I sure hope there will be a second season.

Sanditon. PBS. pilot episode. Has the feel and polished look of Victoria. Like many shows, the audio leaves a bit to be desired. The music is loud, and the dialogue is on the quiet side. I had to run closed caption to catch some of the conversations.

PBS Masterpiece has some fine looking series coming. I really enjoyed Indian Summer, so Beecham House looks appetizing. I hope it can at least achieve something of that quality, but part of the trailer made me wary that it could be another Jamestown, which I find to be awful. And for all you WWII nuts, World on Fire. It has quite a cast.

Yeah, well...I know a little about Scruton on this...very little indeed, but enough to think Scruton's game play on this is off. I'm not one of those types who buys the end justifies the means arguments. Definitely a different perspective though.

As PBS usually has a strong leftist/progressive bias I thought Scruton's perspective might help balance out the PBS bias.
