Watching life with Elizabeth. Betty white supposedly had creative control over her show from what I've read.

A first-season episode of Mission: Impossible that features Martin (Rollin Hand) Landau and Barbara (Cinnamon Carter) Bain, without any of the other regulars (except Steven Hill's Dan Briggs, who outlines the mission). This one has a puzzle: before his death, a U.S. agent has managed to hide a reel of recording wire so artfully that the security people in that country can't find it. As Dan tells Rollin: "Don't search. The security forces are doing that. Get yourself in the same situation -- and leave your mind open."

Rollin does find it. Then the problem becomes: How to get it out of the country? And Rollin and Cinnamon manage that in true "The hand is quicker than the eye" M:I fashion.

Another episode of Preacher. We have been somewhat disappointed with the past two episodes. Hopefully, they get their mojo back. This show is hilarious when it is hitting on all cylinders.
:D

We are still playing catch up, and just watched episode four ("Viktor") which we thought was absolutely brilliant!

We also saw episode two of Game of Thrones and were just blown away! Two episodes in and so far much better than last season, which hopefully was a one-off learning experience post-novel development-wise!

We figured that maybe it is post-Black Sails blues/blahs. We are having a hard time wanting to watch anything else. Just like with Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, and Game of Thrones, when you run through a series, it takes a while before anything else is watchable. We are still stuck in a Black Sails mindset. :D

There are a handful of shows at any time that really "speak" to us. Over the years, it has ranged from Sons of Anarchy (!), Hell on Wheels, Boardwalk, Penny Dreadful.

Now it is Preacher, Taboo, Walking Dead, Supernatural (well, for seven years and counting), and of course GoT.

Taboo appears to be getting two more seasons. They weren't sure if a season 2 was happening, and then they were and didn't know if it would take three years to happen. They think 2018 for season 2. I'm excited to hear they're getting two more. The third season will be the final season, but we could be talking 2020 at this rate. A lot can happen, so even a season 2 will be appreciated.

Great to hear there will be, at least, two more seasons. And the long gestation period gives viewers time to emotionally recover between them. I know I was emotionally shattered after the first season. The complete disregard for human life, combined with the freak he had going on with his sister and all the back stabbing and arrant moral bankruptcy, left me huddling in the corner, shaking uncontrollably. A year or more between seasons seems a good idea.

I binged the first season of Amazon's Z: The Beginning of Everything - about Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald.

This is a "novelistic" treatment rather than a docudrama, so it shouldn't all be taken as factual... and I'm not sufficiently up on the Fitzgeralds to comment on its accuracy (though upon some Wiki-ing, it appears that they're mostly following history). I liked it. The acting, particularly Christina Ricci as Zelda and David Strathairn as her father, was good, and the production is STUNNINGLY opulent. Being only half-hour episodes, it didn't have that too-familiar dragged-out feel of many Netflix/Amazon series... even though the season only covered from 1918 to 1921.

I mean, it's basically twenties literature and clothing porn. But I'm a sucker for that!

Note: In this series, editor Maxwell Perkins does NOT constantly wear his hat when inside, unlike in that recent Colin Firth film.

We watched the first episode and for no particular reason (it was a bit slow, but not bad) never went back. Maybe we will now. Staying with "Fitzgerald for twenty," we watched the pilot of "The Last Tycoon" and are now looking forward to the full season which just dropped yesterday.

And that Perkins' hat thing was quite distracting in a, overall, good movie.

Yeah, it can be a bit slow at points and repetitive (with the you've-gone-too-far-fight-separate-come-back-together-and-forgive cycle that characterized their marriage), but with the season only being five hours, it doesn't overstay its welcome. I found the best scenes are those that include Zelda's parents vs. all the famous partygoers.

I've already read some negative reviews of The Last Tycoon, so I'm keeping my expectations low. I did like Fitzgerald's unfinished book and the old Elia Kazan film adaptation.

And as I've said here many times, I'm not the world's biggest Fitzgerald fan, from that period I'm more of a Sinclair Lewis/Willa Cather guy. (Lewis is mentioned here more than once as the probable next-big-thing who may supplant Fitzgerald if he can't get his second novel written quickly.)

We figured that we might as well watch an episode of Fear the Walking Dead. We did and were annoyed by some of the main character's' stupidity, the foolishness of some minor characters, and the happening to possibly my favorite. We will most likely watch another episode or two tonight.

I am eagerly awaiting the second set of this season, September as I recall. Best season yet, it has grown on me as I am a day one-er.
