Feud. No knowledge of the actual situation. I wouldn't bother to recommend it to anyone, but I enjoy it.

Pretty much agree - it's gotten a bit better, but everyone's on their own on this one. I won't endorse or denounce, just acknowledge that I grumble but come back each week. Sarandon is doing an outstanding job. And I don't know if it really happened - but loved Jack Warner not even blinking before telling Crawford that Davis can act circles around her. True and needed to be said.

You are so right. Without some minimum amount of money to provide for clothes, shelter, food, healthcare - life is a brutal daily struggle, but shows like this remind us how more and more money truly does not by more and more happiness for many people and, almost, seems to work in the reverse. And away from all that, some people are just miserable people - to themselves and others.

I just watched the first 5 episodes of the original Twilight Zone series. This would so not fly in today's boisterous media world. Too low-key and thoughtful for today.
The 5th episode: Walking Distance is fascinating. I didn't even know that Bernard Herrmann had done the music. You can hear a lot of his trademark cues (B flat minor maj7 with dissonances thrown in) so I thought it was someone imitating his style.

I just watched the first 5 episodes of the original Twilight Zone series. This would so not fly in today's boisterous media world. Too low-key and thoughtful for today.

Walking Distance is one of my favorite episodes, and Herrmann's delicate score is one of the reasons. He wrote the main title theme for the first season (the lesser-known one, not the familiar Twilight Zone theme), and music for a bunch of episodes. Walking Distance is also one of Serling's more autobiographical episodes - he was as exhausted as Gig Young's Martin Sloane from the effort to get Zone off the ground, and he looked back with nostalgia to the Binghamton, NY (known for its carousels) of his childhood.

Last night we picked up the first episode of iZombie Season 3 on Netflix. IT's been so long since we last watched regular broadcast TV, I'm somewhat frustrated at this being released a week at a time, and having to wait for the next episode! Funny how that happens.

Watched the episode of "Feud" in which Crawford manipulated the Oscars to, one, undermine Davis' chances of winning and, two, put herself in a position to accept on behalf of the best actress winner.

I have no idea if any of this is true, but if it is, she was cracker-house crazy. Why accepting the award on behalf of someone else made her feel good and as if she had "bested" Davis (who was at least nominated as Crawford wasn't) is beyond my understanding of reason and logic.

I thought she came off as petty, insecure, manipulative and desperate - all but unglued.

And, again, Lange just doesn't do Crawford well. While the real Crawford could scare the wings off of bugs just with a look, Lange's version looks weak and grasping. I was not convinced at all in the scene were she was suppose to stare down the MPA president - I thought he was going to laugh her out of his office.

However, Stanley Tucci as Jack Warner destroyed Crawford last week ("Davis can act circles around you") and Aldrich this week when he basically told him you are a hack director that should be grateful for the B movies I allow you to direct. And that's one heck of an office Warner has - the architecture is stunning and the intimidation factor is subtle but strong.

Sun Records. Funny thing, when I started watching the series, I could not wait for the part where all the stars achieved success! Now I am going to miss the earlier back stories before they was!

My wife and I have finally - finally - gotten around to start watching Arrested Development.

It's hilarious, of course, and too funny to see an almost prepubescent Michael Cera. Even Will Arnett looks so young!

For movie night with the girls, we had a mixed bag of things, with the season two finale of Once Upon a Time, and one third of the 1985 CBC original Anne of Green Gables.

They have a new one running now, with a girl who frankly fell out of the ugly tree hitting each branch twice on the way down, but we're sticking with Megan Follows all the way!

Caught up on The Blacklist, Jr., and then the return of Agents of SHIELD. We're really liking the The Matrix-like setting, and seeing some characters come back. It's sort of a Bizarro-world story line--

The Americans. What a subtle, yet incredibly fun season this is. Another solidly good one on the books. They continue to build character depth in unexpected ways.

Netflix has the fourth season of Ripper Street on, so I've binged a few episodes. I really love this show!
