RE "Boardwalk Empire:" There is one season in the middle (don't remember which one) that got a bit weak, but then it picked up really strongly the following season. So if you hit a lull, don't lose heart.
Thanks. I had heard that. I will not lose faith. I would expect that even if the story snoozes for a bit, the quality of the acting and cinematography will still be top notch. :D

Congratulations. Yes, moving is hard, but your Cape is very, very pretty and looks so inviting that you guys must feel great. Enjoy and the best of luck in your new home.

Thanks so much, FF! I have made wonderful progress in getting things settled. It's starting to come together!

Most recent Agents of SHIELD. Working through the Poldark series on Amazon. Finished Wolf Hall. Rylance's Cromwell was (to me) a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. Motivated by self-preservation? Yearning for power? Deal with a dysfunctional childhood?

My son and I continued binge-watching the Netflix Jessica Jones series. (We still have four first-season episodes to go.) Quite a different animal from all the other Marvel-based shows, it's pretty disturbing. The great performances by Krysten Ritter and David Tennant hold it together, and it's riveting television. But I'm really not sure if I actually like it.

PS for the folks over in the Outerwear forum: Ritter really rocks that moto jacket!

And that is why we have yet to watch it. I am not sure that I want to see the story of Jessica Jones brought to life in a gratuitous fashion. I kind of like my Marvel as it was in the seventies.

I wouldn't say "gratuitous". The violence and mental torment are utterly essential to the story. (The sex, somewhat less, but I don't really have a problem with that.) I am also a 60s/70s Marvel guy, and this series is certainly quite different from those classic Marvel works. Once you realize that it's not a traditional superhero story, but a chronicle of damaged individuals doing what they must to go on, you either have to accept it as that, or skip it. Personally, I give Marvel/Netflix a lot of credit for trying something really different. But there's no question that a distressing show like this one will always be an acquired taste.

The Americans. While I don't think this show will ever come close to becoming a classic or all-timer, it's one of the best shows on TV right now. It's too bad they can't write better dialog and conversation. There's a ton of substance and dilemma they could better explore. They attempt it, but they limit themselves to doling out crumbs. Almost everyone on the show has the potential to be an interesting, complex study, so why not sometimes go beyond the action and really dig into the deeper psychological screwery? An example could be the seminars. Let's hear a lot more about that and not mostly use it as a plot device. Good actors. Good story. Fun, dynamic context. I like how efficient this show tends to be. There isn't much filler and time wasting. Things move move move forward.

Vikings. A gatling trebuchet. Load it up with crap. Pull the lever. Some of it will stick.
