...Yes, the cussing on "Deadwood" is pretty creative! LOL
After Deadwood had been officially deemed a success the Los Angeles Times ran an article that addressed the "colorful" language used in the show, i.e. whether or not it truly was accurate and/or excessive. The "expert" they consulted said yes, it was accurate and no, it wasn't excessive. She explained Deadwood, the town, was the Las Vegas of it's day and that most people (men and women) went there to let loose and get away from the "rules" of the more "civilized" big cities; what happened in Deadwood stayed in Deadwood.

About to finish with "Bordertown" season 3 tonight. It is a Finnish TV show and it is filmed in winter for the most part, the snowscapes are beautiful and the cinematography is stunning. The plots are, to stereotype them, very European in nature which means to me....highly convoluted and improbable. The highly intelligent if slightly autistic head detective does some really stupid head scratching shit and if he was working in the US would be a dead man somewhere in Season 1.

Barkskins. National Geographic channel. This looked like it might be interesting. Similar riffing to Jamestown, but set in New France (Canada). Within the first five minutes I was scratching my head. I'm not someone who looks for problems in a story, but I'm also not someone who can ignore shoddy relationships, story, or editing. I wouldn't sit down with the hopes of enjoying something and then look for reasons to not enjoy it. But this thing was a mess from the start. Wait, why are they arguing? Why is this one getting their way? What's the conflict, and why is there a conflict? Oh, so we can get to point B? If we need to get to point B, don't roughshod it in the introduction. Someone had to know this was happening. I don't get it.

Only four more episodes of Sabrina, then it's back to finish the final season of The Americans. It's an era I remember very clearly, having turned 13 in late 87, but it really does feel like another world now. In many respects it was; so much would soon change in such a short space of time. I fel we're living through another era-defining shift now; long after I'm dead, I'm sure my brother's kids will be telling their grandkids what it was like to self-isolate the way I remember mine talking about rationing.

Our tv show watching has slimmed down to reruns of Frasier, Mary Tyler Moore, The Bob Newhart Show, and the occasional Murdoch Mysteries. Some Blue Bloods, Blacklist, etc.

We've run through the period dramas that we like, and are using up BBC travelogues at a rapid clip.

Secret pleasure? The semi-reality show What on Earth?, the one where they start off with a weird satellite image, tap-dance all around it's meaning with a bunch of what-if's, then make the big reveal of something not all that gripping. (Not a UFO crash site, just where capybaras make their winter home.)

Marco Polo on Netflix. Costumes are amazing. Story is not bad. Not sure of the historicity regarding the original events, but then, not even Marco Polo himself was averse to telling an entertaining tale or three.

I've loved Matt Berry ever since THe IT Crowd. ("God d*mn these electric sex pants.")

Love the theme song for the tv show too - "You're dead and outta this world". Not written for the show, but it could have been.

So glad to know of another Matt Berry fan! I'm not sure many in the states know of him. The wife and I are big fans of everything Matt Berry. I especially love Toast of London! Wish there were more than 3 seasons.

What We Do in The Shadows has a great soundtrack. The title song is awesome. Every closing credits song is very good too! I believe Mark Mothersbaugh is the musical director. It was good to see in the most recent episode Berry show off some of his musical talent.

Nearing the end of season four of Schitts Creek. My lord it is funny! Wife and youngest daughter and I love it, our 13 year old is indifferent.

Alexis: "I am really enjoying this peanutbutter thing we bought from those farm witches".

David: "Those were Mennonites..."

As we live in the heart of Ontario Mennonite country, that has become part of our vernacular.

My wife and I are loving What We Do In the Shadows! This second season is hilarious.
We're huge Matt Berry fans and love everything he is in.

Did you see the movie?
No, I haven't! Need to, though!

Matt Berry in the I.T. Crowd is some of the best British television EVER.

That episode with the electric sex pants is some of the funniest stuff I've ever seen. That whole show is a delight.

I agree. Berry was a wonderful introduction for the second series. He had very big shoes to fill, replacing Chris Morris, but he did it with aplomb. I think it was also a good idea that they had him play a very different character. Well written, too - really believable as the sort of hyper self-believer / alpha male type who inherits a big job and thinks they're there on merit but really has no clue beyond corporate speak!
