What was the last TV show you watched?

English show on Netflix called The Five. Mystery crime thing, cabling together the lives of five childhood friends as adults. Main mystery is the murder of a woman, possibly by the missing presumed dead brother of one of the leads, played by one of Mary's suitors from Downton Abbey. Quite enjoyable, and great to see Lee Ingleby in a meaty role.

The tail end of the BBC'[s Years and Years, written by Russell T Davies. Overall an excellent show which convincingly imagines Britain and the direction in which it seems set to go over the next fifteen years or so.

POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT:

The ending is a bit of a let-down - the usual shoe-horned in, unconvincing RTD 'happy ending', reminiscent of the same flaw in much of his Doctor Who work. If you can live with being faintly disappointed by the ending, however, it's still very good.

Alias Grace. Netflix. I liked the structure of this mini-series. Wasn't too sure about the ending at the time, but I'm warming to it. Some characters and elements were just too...something...that I couldn't fully suspend belief. I don't know about this one.

Game of Thrones - Game Revealed season 8. HBO on Youtube. I don't think I've ever watched one of these, and I also don't think HBO offers them on their demand streaming app. If I'm right about that, I don't get it. These are far better than the deals that follow each episode where everyone is bored to death with the contractual task and basically only tell you what you just watched. There's so little value and insight in those things that I'd call them pointless. These Game Revealed extras are worth watching.

Dorothy is one of America's forgotten treasures. Very strange circumstances with her early departure as well. Given what she had been working on and the people involved, I have my doubts about her claimed cause of death.

Agreed! The bigger networks have started reviving some older game shows. I definitely think this one needs to be revisited. Can you imagine the occupations they could have on?


I binge watched Santa Clarita Diet last night. Only a few episodes left to go.

We finished The Five last night, watching on average two episodes a night. Turned out a great ending, a really engaging series overall. One character, Lee Ingleby's, had a mysterious secret life that was not fully explained, but it added to overall tone of the show in a positive way. My wife is familiar with the series' creator, Harlan Coben, so I will look out for his other projects.

The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley. HBO. I remember watching Charlie Rose interview Elizabeth Holmes and thinking she was just a talking head and very strange. There were no hard information in that interview. Rose's problems aside, his interviews were usually interesting and detailed. Not with her. She said pretty much nil. I never heard of her before that, and after, I never heard of her again. I don't read Silicon Valley or business junk. Another documentary that could have been cut in half, but it did paint a ghoulish picture well. If you wonder how people drink the Kool Aid, this is a good one to watch. Theranos was as much a cult as a snake oil business. Even famous stately grandfathers turning on their grandsons to the tune of $400-500K in legal fees. The story has everything but a real product. They could probably do a whole other half hour on how David Boies (lawyer) went from Gay rights Supreme Court champion to Theranos consigliere.

I watched that a while ago and also found it fascinating, as I don't pay much attention to Silicon Valley shenanigans. What a strange story! Apparently, there IS a sucker born every minute.

SoYouThinkYouCanDance is starting a new season. This is a favourite of mine. The level of sophistication, the athleticism and overall artistry of the dancers is truly amazing. I am 6'1"/220 lbs and have been large all my life....a linebacker or catcher's body but in my mind's eye when I close my eyes I see a dancer. Alas, reality is somewhat different....large, lumpy and decidedly ungraceful I enjoy it vicariously and dream.

In my mid 30's I began to pull leg muscles while playing baseball. Never had a problem before but age was creeping up. During the offseason my wife and I signed up for ballet lessons and then a contemporary class as I thought it would be a fun way to gain flexibility. It hurt really badly at first but by spring I could do all the barre work and could even do the splits. Alas, while I could do the exercises I was def not dancer material. I was that guy in the middle of the cattle call in the beginning of the movie "All That Jazz".....always a half beat behind. However at least I know in real time that I am not dancer material. And I realized if I ever divorced dance class was the all time best place to meet women with zero competition!!

Started to watch Chernobyl last night. Watched 2 episodes and found it so tension producing had to switch over to an episode of "Escape to the County" for respite. So far Chernobyl is fabulous....other than the tension it produces. Gripping is a good descriptor.

We have been watching the BBC series Jennie: Lady Randolph Churchill, first broadcast in 1974, through Acorn. One episode left. The show is from the videotape-in-the-interiors, film-for-the-exteriors era. Lee Remick does a superb job of portraying the former Jennie Jerome of Brooklyn in her twenties through her fifties and sixties.
Coastal Railways with Julie Walters, from 2017, again courtesy of Acorn. Four episodes, each a journey on a railroad traveling along a coast in the UK, with visits to sites and with persons along the route. Gorgeous scenery and interesting side trips.
