We stayed in last night, I can't remember the last Saturday night when we stayed home. However, I did enjoy the television. I watched the very last episode of Foyle's War as well as watching again, a rerun of The Full Monty, good grief, it's almost twenty years since it's release. Do you know, it was actually quite enjoyable to stay in. A chilli con carne dinner, a glass or three of fine French red, Ruby curled up on my lap, made for a relaxing evening.
Next Saturday we will be rocking at The London Tavern, friends from London are coming down to join us.

As someone who can almost not remember the last time we went out on a Saturday night (a bit of an exaggeration, but we are home 19 out of 20 of them), I love being home on Saturday. Friday night is great, but you're still coming down from work and by Sunday night you're back in work's penumbra. But Saturday is just easy going - a few glasses of wine, a good book or movie, something to eat and you got the makings of a great evening.

I go to the gym really early some Sunday mornings and see the people detritus from the night before - hook-ups happening or not, walks of shame, people in "going out on a Saturday night" clothes waiting for a bus or trying to hail a taxi, guys stumbling out of bars telling each other something loud and incoherent.... Nothing wrong with that - they are young and should have stupid fun, I just wouldn't enjoy that at all anymore. Sometimes my girlfriend and I will happily crawl into bed at 9pm or around there on a Saturday night, laugh at how boring we are and fall asleep nice and early.

I know this isn't the '60s you are referring to, but I like the pre-flower power '60s style of "The Apartment," "The Manchurian Candidate" or "The Hustler." It had a kind of rat-pack, skinny tie, sack suit, dark sunglasses, dull colors cool to the clothes and vibe. The cotton in the men's almost-always white shirts - and almost always Oxford cloth button downs - wrinkled in a relaxed, natural way that makes today's iron-free shirts look fake and brittle.

There's something (insert Lizzie's explanation here) about the '50s and early '60s black and white filming quality that is incredible crisp and powerful. I will take it over any color film.

Now that I finally (after, I kid you not, almost 30 years) bought a new TV, some of those films seem as it they are in 3D as there is an almost depth perspective coming through it is so clear.

And you are right, "The Apartment" is a great example. From those scenes in Lemon's little disheveled apartment, to the dark bars and to the crisp office shots, you feel like you are there.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Saturday nights during my younger days, but you couldn't pay me to do it now! In fact, you know what my husband and I did last night? Got groceries! Ha! And actually, it was the perfect time to do it because the store was nice and quiet.

In my twenties, one of the few reasons I wouldn't be out on a Saturday night was I had gone out hard Thursday and Friday night and my body, even then, said enough. Now "hard" means an extra glass of wine or two - oh my!

"Stranger Things" - This Netflix original is pretty weird. We finished episode 2 and I'm still not sure if it's worth continuing as all this ground has been covered before and better in "The X-Files" and other movies and films. It's a semi-nice touch to set it in the early 80's but I'm not exactly nostalgic for that time.

We also watched the second season of "Between" and found it much better and tighter than the first run. They killed of plenty of superfluous characters and did a fair job of tidying things up.

Cars That Rock Brian Johnson: Alfa Romeo. Sad, most Americans have never heard of the mark, or only remember the Spider, or rusted out four doors! I like that he spent time on the racing. He got to drive the P3 that Nuvolari drove.

Oh dear, have I opened a can of worms? Going out on a Saturday isn't exactly sacrosanct anymore than getting dressed up in a tux is. Yet I do both. In our youth, my wife and I were competitive ballroom dancers. We were always out, whether competing, training, rehearsing, choreographing, teaching or just plain enjoying the dance. You might think that the reality show: Dancing with the Stars, we call it: Strictly Come Dancing, would be a favourite of ours. Not at all. On British TV it comes across as being all about the presenters, the professional partners and about one of the judges, who enjoys the notoriety of being Mr Nasty. Think I would rather go out dancing.
