"Mr. Sefridge" recorded from Sunday night. I want to like this show, but Jeromy Piven's over acting kills it for me. I still think the more modest budget production "The Paradise" was a better version of the same concept.

I prefer The Paradise. Piven can feel like he's still in Entourage mode. It's over the top. He doesn't have a lot of range.

I was on a call today to repair a leak, and the client had 'Gilligan's Island' on in the background. It was the episode about the Japanese soldier who was hidden out on the island and didn't know WWII was over.
I remember as a kid growing up in the 70s that this was a fairly well known notion, and indeed, the last known holdout surrendered in the Philippines in '74. What struck me about it, though, was how utterly a foreign and insane concept this would be to generations of modern kids. I know that my own children would find this a difficult to comprehend, but to many my generation and older this was just an odd matter of fact.

Time marches on.

The Americans on FX, which is nearing the end of its outstanding third season.

A great, great show that seemed like an ill-considered Homeland rip-off when it started... but which has continually improved while the annoyingly inconsistent Homeland has careened all the place. Alas, seemingly nobody but me is watching, except for the media critics giving it rave reviews each week.

It was renewed for a 4th season. Good show. You said it: critics and a few people older than the targeted demographic for successful TV. The younger crowd (the money spenders) have little interest in it, and that will be its demise. I don't know why they would ever think a younger demographic would be interested in the political and social of the 80s. That makes no sense to me.

*I have to give it to FX for sticking by it.

I've been watching 'The Americans' each week since the beginning. Hooked on that and 'Justified'. Another good series(that starts again this summer) is 'Tyrant' about a middle eastern monarchy. I think the quality of these weekly FX series are unique and exceptional productions.

Just finished watching last nights episode of The Americans. The show gives me chills and I'm fascinated how the writers have kept things tied together considering the complexity of the plot lines.

I am surprised and happy that it's been renewed.

I watch Tyrant, but I find it to be a pretty poor story. The acting is on the weak side, especially the supporting cast. Molly and the kids are often awkward. Their story arc is pretty crappy, and that doesn't help. They have the technical aspects down, but that is signature FX for you. The costumes are laughable, particularly Jamal's. I was very surprised to see it get renewed. I don't feel it warrants it. It likely speaks to how difficult it is to find good material in Hollywood (and that the Homeland execs have a lot of pull).

The series finale of Sons of Anarchy.

Wow.....
"wow", as in "I can't believe how awful this is"?

I'm happy to see that I'm not the only Lounger enjoying this great show!

Agreed - a very well done show that has actually gotten better as its gotten older. I'm surprised at how little attention it gets.

Also, it seems a crazy idea to me to think that their daughter - raised in America - would be open to becoming a spy for the USSR. They can write whatever they want, but unless the parents raised her to be subversive and question America (which I don't believe they did), then why would they think she would turn on, what to her is, her country?
