That's more like what I expected. The "Take It From Lizzie" section sounds neat. Do I remember the young woman pictured with your from past years or am I so old that all young kids look the same?

The gal with the glasses is Brittany, who's our bandleader, and the one at the mic with me is Galadria, who joined up with us last year as a box office attendant, concession kid, and highly-trained featured vocalist. The rest of the Kids who'll be in the show are off at school for the moment and missed the first runthru-- my number-one comedy sidekick, Liliana, is working on a BA and an MA in PoliSci simultaneously at UMaine,and is also one of the most naturally-talented radio comics I've ever worked with. And to think two years ago she'd never heard a radio show in her life.

Lili is the little one with the glasses who can't quite keep the tune in this video from last year, but she more than makes up for it with personality.

"Strandra" is our mascot, a small rubber duck in a baby bonnet who lives on the concession counter.

I love these Theatre Kids/ life in MidCoast updates. You obviously are quite a remarkable mentor to these kids, Lizzie: something we all need in our youth.

This clip was shot by one of our patrons who was taking a film class -- and documents Lilita's last regularly-scheduled shift before she went off to school. Little did she realize that radio stardom awaited...

Production is underway on the special Social Distancing Edition of "The Strand On The Air" =

No live audience, no guest stars, and it's cut together from segments instead of being performed live, but there will be social-distancing jokes galore, and one, count-em, one toilet paper gag. Should be broadcast locally within a couple of weeks and released on line simultaneously.

Finally finished the broadcast edit of our next Strand On the Air broadcast. Crosby might have thought doing pre-recorded shows was easier, but he didn't have to do the post-production. Live radio is much, much easier.

We'll be broadcasting over wrfr.org on Sunday afternoon at 5 pm Eastern. It's a full hour show, as opposed to our usual ninety minutes, but some of our regulars are with us via futuristic technology, and young Lilita actually made a special trip back home just to do two scenes with me in person. We used two mics, paced off six feet apart.

There's something for everyone in this show, including a cat.

We're going to be doing one a month for the summer, at least, since we won't be reopening any time soon. Mrs Grunden makes her singing debut in this episode, proving there's nothing I won't do for a laugh.

A May 27, 1934 NBC broadcast by "The South Sea Islanders," a Hawaiian guitar-ukelele ensemble, as transferred from a set of aluminum aircheck discs recorded off WJZ. This group was a fixture on the network from its earliest years, usually on Sunday afternoons, always without a sponsor, playing a very pleasant melange of traditional Hawaiian music and the occasional pop tune played in a Hawaiian style. There was a minor fad for Hawaiian-themed pop songs in the early thirties, and two of them show up in this broadcast -- "I Wanna Go Back To My Little Grass Shack," and "King Kamehameha," performed without vocals in an almost proto-swing style. The announcer, Kelvin Keech, was born in Hawaii -- and was probably the only man at NBC who wouldn't have had trouble with the native pronunciations.
