Okay, Suspiria (it's on TCM) just made the list of dumb, not scary, horror films.

I love this, and it is scary! :p You just need to be further compromised when you watch it lol

moving on...

I just watched "The Face of Another / Tanin no kao" 1966. Quite gripping, really a good match for me; New Wavey, and Sci-fi, and beautifully shot as well. A nice jump for anyone who hasn't seen any of Hiroshi Teshigahara's films and may be running out of Kurosawa.

Or maybe I was too compromised last night to not be movie snarky. :D

I have a horror movie pet peeve list a mile long, sorry to be inappropriately contradictory. :eusa_doh:

Saw Quantum of Solace last night. LOVED it. Not sure if I like it more than Casino Royale or if it's as good...it's just different than Casino Royale, though haven't been able to put my finger on how yet.

But still. Excellent flick. Daniel Craig is in top form.

Watched three of late:

"Eastern Promises". Fantastic, great film.

"Stand By Me". Must be the 5th time I've seen it, still love it.

"3:10 to Yuma". I like a good western and that's a good'un.

Saw it last night too. Found it sadly disappointing.
Lots and lots of action and no charm, no plot.
Bond has gone from being a British agent to an all-american/international actionman. What a shame.:(

Like my girlfriend said, a film about a really nice jacket.

Good in parts and lovingly detailed, but Clooney should've found someone he trusted to direct it.

I saw it too and really liked it, though, I think Casino Royale was a better movie. CR had more actual story and plot, but this one was certainly action packed. BTW, Daniel Craig is very easy on the eyes. lol

The Mist - based on the Stephen King novella. Was quite good despite the dodgy CGI at the beginning of the film. The ending was a surprise but a bit of a downer nonetheless.

Completely agree with you. :D

There was a lot more action in this one compared to Casino Royale, but I still think there was a lot of character growth/depth in Quantum of Solace.

Still, I think Casino Royale was better in a lot of ways, but QR had its own strenghts, too. The chemistry between Judi Dench and Daniel Craig is great.

It was not quite what I was expecting. Superbly acted, but I found it rather disjointed and obscure. I felt like I needed Cliff's Notes. :eusa_doh: lol

"Network" is my favorite modern-era movie, hands down. Paddy Chayefsky was a prophet before his time, as a scan of the current-day cable dial will confirm.

Right now we're running the Ed Harris-Viggo Mortensen western "Appaloosa." Very much a traditional oater, and our audience is lapping it up -- huge grosses thru the weekend. More pictures like this please!

Last week we ran "I Served The King of England," a Czech picture unlike anything I have ever seen -- a bizarre neo-Chaplinesque social satire set largely in wartime Czechosolvakia, and featuring what may be the most outrageous lovemaking scene ever filmed involving Hitler. If you are easily offended, avoid this one -- but if you've got a strong constitution, you'll laugh till you drop.
