What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

Yep, I watched quite a few on TCM today...

I wish I could say that, but my wife will only tolerate "those old movies" for so long before she commandeers the remote control. lol Needless to say, she and I have very different tastes in movies. And the next thing I knew there were suddenly errands that had to be run, and "Would you like to go to such-and-such for dinner?", and...well, you get the idea. But I have a couple of Bogart movies (Across the Pacific, and Action in the North Atlantic) set to record in the wee hours of Sunday morning, so I'll enjoy watching those when I have the opportunity.

My girlfriend and I joke that there are three people in the world and two of the three are honest. One are people who say they are old movie fans and actually love them and watch them. Two are people who dislike old movies, grumble about "black and white movies," etc. and don't watch them. And, three, people who say they like old movies, and have maybe seen four or five of them ("Casablanca" and "Gone with the Wind" usually are two of the five), but who really don't watch them and don't want to watch them.

At least your wife is honest. When I first started dating my girlfriend and she said she liked old movies, I was a touch suspicious, so, over time, I asked her questions about what her favorites were, what actors she liked, etc. and could quickly tell from her quirky list and passions that she really like them. We discovered that we both used holidays like Thanksgiving or New Year Eve as an excuse to rent (yes, we started dating in the '90s) old movies.

Eighteen years later and old movies are still one of our favorite shared passions. Yesterday we watched a bunch of old Hitchcock Presents TV shows and today we plan to watch a few old movies we recorded from TCM over the last few weeks.

I didn't have cable on my bedroom tv for a long time, but had a DVD player. But I knew that if I wanted to watch all my classic WW2 movies this weekend, I wouldn't be able to do it on hubby's TV downstairs (he sleeps downstairs because he snores) because he's not a fan of the classics. So we hooked up the cable in my room and I've been a happy camper.

[Trapped in T-wilight Zone]

My wife is spending a few days visiting with her elderly parents. So I watched "Phantom From Space" 1953, an old favorite of mine, and "First Spaceship On Venus" 1960. The latter is one I wasn't really familiar with, and turned out to be a bit better than I expected.

I watched 'The Salvation' recently, not as good as I expected it to be but not as bad as it could have been.........I also managed to catch 'Mogambo' a few days ago (no not the disease ) which was a treat, although the 'special effects' are laughable by todays standards ( though it's easy to imagine movie audiences back in 53 must have had a pretty exciting ride watching this) Clark & Ava were magnificent & for added interest Gable wore a couple of very cool safari hats.

On Saturday, the Missus and I went and saw Tomorrowland. We agreed that it wasn't all that engaging. Visually stunning in parts. The auditorium was about one-third full.

Just finished The Story of G.I. Joe. Really enjoyed it.

Omar Bradley and Ike both said it was the finest portrayal of the infantryman's life/death ever put to film. An amazing, flat out amazing film!

Saw "Mad Max - Fury Road" - Having seen every iteration of this character I must say this is the first I've enjoyed since the original "Road Warrior"! I felt transported, engaged and thoroughly entertained. Of the two blockbusters thus far, I will say I enjoyed the Avengers movie more but only by a hair!

"Belle of the Yukon" meh. Wasn't too impressed.
"Calling All Husbands" - fun and silly, and has George Reeves before he was Superman
"Lullaby of Broadway" - Doris Day is terrific as usual.

My favorite scene in a very entertaining movie. Mitchum delivers that line and scene so very well.

He pops up here and there in the movies - "From Here to Eternity" seems to be his most "famous" movie role. But - and this killed his career, based on what I've read - he reads "Clark Kent" or "Superman" no matter what role I see him in.

I've been watching reruns of his Superman TV show recently on some obscure cable channel and they are fun from a style point of view - clothes, cars, sets, etc. - but they did not bring a lot of thought or variation to the plots.

Yeah, I think the role of "Superman" stereotyped him forever, just like Matt LeBlanc's role as Joey from "Friends" did for him. I tried watching LeBlanc in a serious role and I kept waiting for him to grin and say, "How YOU doin'."
