Wolf Creek 2. Well made, but incredibly violent. Lots of references to 70's Australian cinema throughout the movie (the homage to Wake in Fright is very well done). Definietly not endorsed by the Tourism Council of Australia lol

Waterloo Road (1945)

Stewart Granger as a wartime spiv. Interestingly, the film looks at real issues for wartime Londoners: spivs, cheating wives, deserters etc. Surprisingly good. probably a much more accurate depiction of life in wartime Britain than some more celebrated films (Went the Day Well, Mrs Miniver etc).

Oh there is never too much MST3K.
By season 3 they were hitting on all cylinders.
Initially I was a Joel era only fan, but over the years I've come to appreciate Mike's style.
COTM...the Rocky Jones serial.
Bobby, they should have jettisoned him right after lift off.

I got started with Joel, way back when, and then learned to really like Mike. The host segments towards the end, with Pearl, Bobo, and Brain Guy, got a little convoluted for my taste. Yet, they were still incredibly funny. And, either you get it or you think it's dumb, a la my wife.

Loved "The Crawling Eye" so much I bought a copy. Never knew it was British in origin. Decent monster/SciFi flick.

I watched "The Lives of a Bengal Lancer" today... Despite the rampant Imperialism on display I still enjoy these old tales of high adventure from back in the day... when I cared little and knew even less.

Struggled with "Plan 9 From Outer Space" last night. I'm glad I didn't have to pay to view. This movie is historically bad. Was this movie a spoof on all the Sci-Fi movies made around this time?

I watched Crooks Anonymous this afternoon as off work this week, I've never seen this one before and it wasn't a bad little film with plenty of period British clothing and a few nice cars plus some classic British actors.

"Plan 9 from Outer Space" is often rated as either the worst movie ever made or at least the worst science fiction movie ever made. Every movie enthusiast needs to see it at least once. I can't speak for the wacky Ed wood, but I don't think he was trying to make a parody. It was as good as he and his collection of oddball pals could do. There are a ton of legends and stories about this one. Look it up and you'll see what I mean.
Another contender by Ed Wood for worst movie ever is "Jail Bait" (1954). It's not what you think - it's Ed's version of a film noir murder mystery. I think it's even worse (and funnier) than Plan 9.

Here's mine, after watching almost all of his movies.
He wasn't trying to make a parody, his ideas were good, but he had one problem.
The problem? He was really bad at carrying out these ideas first to paper, then to film.
With little or no funding, he couldn't afford the best actors. (and maybe he didn't know what the word talent meant).
Or props, which he was famous for "borrowing" from various studios.
His most famous was the monster from Bride Of The Monster (with Bela Lugosi).
It would have been more realistic, if he had also "borrowed" the motor that ran the movement.
Since he didn't, the actors had to put the monster's tentacles on them and act like it was attacking them, making the movie much funnier!
MST3K riffed 3 of his movies, Bride Of The Monster, The Sinister Urge, and The Violent Years.
All 3 are some of their best in the series.
It wasn't until Rifftrax (all 3 guys from MST3K the Mike Nelson years are involved) that they riffed Plan 9 From Outer Space.
Again, that one was hit right out of the park.

Plan 9 from Outer Space was certainly not a spoof or a parody. It is such a delightfully awful film, featuring stars like Dudley Manlove ("Because all you of Earth are idiots!") and Tor Johnson ("I'm a big boy now, Johnny."), that it's pretty well irresistible (boring sometimes, but still irresistible).

I suggest you grab a quick bad-movie antidote and watch Ed Wood (1994). Johnny Depp does a sterling job as Ed Wood and Martin Landau won best supporting actor for his role as Bela Lugosi. It'll put "Plan 9" in perspective.
