Night Watch, Russian fantasy/horror. An odd film, like channel surfing several different films at once. I'm not sure if I liked it or not but the use of subtitles (changing colour, swirling around characters, etc) was great. The book made (slightly) more sense!
Fallen Angel (1945), Dana Andrews, Linda Darnell, Alice Faye, with Percy Kilbride, in a pre-Pa Kettle performance. Good noir, with Darnell hard as nails, and Andrews in the role of tough guy who falls for the femme fatale. Faye seems so sweet as to be kind of unbelievable.
What can I say? Wow. Ida Lupino was fantastic - rumor persists that she directed part of it, which she vehemently denied. A woman far, far ahead of her time. If she was around nowadays, she'd be hoisting Oscars for directing, probably. What a shame.
