Just watched: The Battle of Britain.

Wow what a great film! I'm probably preaching to the choir here but it is a film one must see.

Tonight I'll be watching: Dambusters.

I'm watching The Lords of Flatbush, an old '70's flick. It features newcomers Sylvester Stallone, Henry Winkler, Perry King and Susan Blakely.
Not the greatest flick but fun.

Quantum of Solace.

I've revised my original opinion of the film - it is much better than I thought. The character arc of Bond is brilliant. And my goodness, Daniel Craig, IMO, was an excellent choice to play Bond. He's taken the character to new depths.

I saw it on the day it came out and once more at the cinema and was rather disappointed, being a big fan of Bond, both books and films.
But perhaps enough time has passed to give it another try.
Casino Royale was a tough act to follow.

Agreed. Casino Royale was very impressive, and I still don't think Quantum is up to the same caliber, but it's still very good.

I just watched Quantum of Solace and enjoyed it completely. In Casino Royal, they had to introduce the new Bond as new series, previous movies were set up, once Doctor No came out it was the same time line inspite of different actors.

Here we have the new time line with Bond's second movie picking up from where the other one left off. As such it is less the detective style with action mixed in but more the relentless and furiously paced procession of events as Bond pursues the members of the new adversarial group, a conspiratorial league of movers and shakers.

In a way QOS is simply Casino Royal Part II.

Previously, there were mostly foreign governmental agencies to deal with, as the criminal activites of the Mafia or union Corse were not the usual focus of the double O section until the appearence of SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion). I believe Dr. No was a Spectre member and that in From Russia With Love and Thunderball, Spectre is the main enemy, reappearing in later films.

With Moonraker, The Spy Who Loved Me and The World is Not Enough we had mad industrialists looking to reshape the world to one extent or another in their own image.

Still my favorite line in any Bond film is from Drax in Moonraker:
"See that some harm comes to Mister Bond."

"Weekend In Havana". finally bought the dvd. love Carmen Miranda.

on Bond,

while CR was the better movie, QOS didn't have it's third act lull...

i'm thankful for Daniel Craig (just my opinion now) redeeming the franchise that lost it's soul after Connery. silly series of wimpy wannabees. Moore being the worst.

I too am thinking of giving Quantum of Solace a second chance. I was terribly disappointed when we saw it in the theater. All action - no substance, but I want to give it a second viewing. I loved Casino Royale and I adore Daniel Craig as Bond.

I'm very pleased with Daniel Craig's take on Bond. I remember being a bit apprehensive when I found out he was taking over, and I couldn't believe some of the angry people out there who started websites like, "Daniel Craig is NOT Bond."

I'm so glad I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He has exceeded my expectations.
