What Types of Meat Are We Allowed to Talk About?

Any other meats on the ban list? Just want to know in advance before running afoul of any friends of moose, ostriches, frogs, and/or snails. Thanks.

Ah, I missed it. To be fair to the mods round here, they see and pull an awful lot of off-colour posts most of us never see.

I saw it, and as a vegetarian was pretty grossed out by it. I actually only did so because I assumed it was one of those awful wind-up troll messages, and I was going to be a good citizen and report it. I think where pets and domestic-type animals are concerned is where a line tends to, rightly or wrongly, get drawn. I'm not one to proselytize or make a fuss, so I simply would have avoided that thread from then on, but in my heart of hearts I'm glad it's gone. Too contentious.

Even though horse meat has a history in this country, there was one response early on that was less than pleasant or polite, which changed the whole tone of the thread. I'd bet that was what led to the thread being closed.

There doesn't seem to be any problem with discussing wild game. And I can attest that zebra is excellent though eland is the best meat on four legs with cow muskox a close second.

Hi Marc;

Rest assured you didn't "run afoul" with me in reference to eating horsemeat. My only objection to the recently lifting of the ban on U.S. horse slaughterhouses was the possibility of over hunting the wild horses and the probability of stealing owned horses for the sake of keeping the slaughterhouses in business. In business under the auspices of the Federal Gov't. for profit.
I'm certainly not against the killing and processing of horses that are beyond living out their senior years with a good quality of life.
Folks can eat when, where and what they want.........just don't try to eat MY horses.

When we raise our own hogs, it was the kids that stuck them with such monikers as "sausage", "bacon", or "pork chop"...... And they gladly helped with the butchering.....

On another note, my dear aunt (whom I love to death), did manage to kill their old Holstein milk cow (by accident, mind you) with a 2 x 4 one morning before school.............. Apparently she didn't take to her kickin' over the pail of milk she had just finished filling ........... The 2x4 was the only thing handy. I suppose she was about 14 at the time....... Yes they did butcher the cow........
