What to do with secure ID lanyards

Well I have been working on this for a long time now (4 years running) and I still have no good answer.

I work as a contractor to our Military and am required to have more badges than an individual has a right to. I have managed to make a system that has the 9+ plastic hellyons under partical control. I would now like to finish this up with a way to hide the lanyard or at least make it go better with a suit than the DC look of nylon lanyard and flag lapel pin.

I have thought of using ball chain for the badges but haven't gone there yet. Any thoughts?

Currently, the requirements are that the badges be higher than the waste (i.e. no belt clips), easy access when challanged and (the self imposed) somehow not be in the way and look decent with a suit.

Thanks in advance.

Pardon my outside-the-beltway ignorance...but you don't mention if they need to be visible at all times. If not...why not get yourself a nice, thin leather wallet (or better yet, credit card holder), attach that to your ball-chain lanyard, and then stick the wallet in your inside suit breast pocket?

In the last 5 and a half years I have not had an issue with seen at all times but I am sure buried down in a regulations somewhere that is the case. I like your idea about the wallet. Trouble is, it is going to be hard to produce when challenged for credentials.

Thanks for the thought Skeet.

Currently I am using a multibadge holder similiar to this: http://www.securityimaging.com/ID-Badge,1308,463.html

I have two door cards hanging behind it on a split ring for easy access into some of the buildings.

I like Skeet's idea, I'm sure you could whip it out in about 1 sec.
I only have 2 ID cars. They are in a plastic holder similar to the link you posted, but they are on the end of a pocket watch chain.

Although this does present a problem on days when I want to wear my pocket watch! (need a double chain, too many things to buy, too little money)

Does it have to be a neck lanyard, or just secured to your person via a tether? If it is the latter, you could use a pocketwatch strap in the lapel buttonhole and keep the cards in the upper pocket. You could also opt for a detective style leather credentials case that will keep the primary ID displayed at all times.

That would be the coolest option, imho...

Whatever you do, do not use one of those ball-chains that come attached to the standard plastic holder. I did briefly when they first introduced these cards in our department.... as it was copper underneath, the silver toned overlayer wore off very quickly and it started leaving a nasty green mark on my neck that was hell to scrub off.... The pocket watch chain sounds like a better option, otherwise perhaps - if it must be visible at all times, from your neck, you could adapt a vintage-style spectacles neckchain?

I like that. I am going to have to look around. Thanks.
