What the??? Photo help please!

Hi folks...
In one of my folders under my pictures on my pc, there are a bunch of photos that when I click on the thumbnail the wrong photo pops up. What's going on? Can I fix it? Have I lost the real photo? I'm freaking out!
The only thing I can think of is that I have changed the way the photos are arranged many times. Should I not mess with that? ("the arrange icons by" option....)

Hi ohairas!
I'm sorry to hear of your trouble with thumbnails perhaps this will help:

Sometimes going to View / Refresh will solve
this issue.

Another possible is to delete the Thumbs.db
file from the offending folder. If you cannot
find the Thumbs.db file you'll have to open
a folder and go to...Tools / Folder Options /
View tab...Tick..."Show Hidden Files And
Folders" / Apply / OK.

Also you might have to create a new folder /
copy all the image files into the new folder.

Thank you Taggert, I'll give it a try. But I have a feeling I will have to copy to another folder like you said.
It's a HUGE folder too, over 700 pics. It'll take forever! :cry:

I'll copy the entire folder to another, then try to fix the original. If that doesn't work, ugh.. I'll hafta go thru each pic individually.

I'm due for a backup, I should do that first of all! Thank goodness I have a tone of them stored on flickr. None from this particular folder tho!

You don't need to fix the original.

As Taggert said, delete file "Thumbs." Then left-click once anywhere in the folder, but NOT on a photo. Press Ctrl and A (select all). All the photos will be highlighted. Right click anywhere and select "Cut" from the resulting drop-down. (Click "Copy" if you'd like to make duplicates.) Now create new folder and open it. Open the new folder and right click. Choose "Paste." Wait. Pictures will be transferred in one shot, and won't take as long as you'd think. At some point, the computer will create a new "Thumbs" on its own in the new folder. Delete the old folder (unless you're making duplicates).

A few weeks ago I sorted my photos by subject and type. I did a lot of cutting and pasting that weekend. lol

This might sound obvious...

but did you restart your PC?
I often just put my laptop to sleep and then realize about 3 months along that I have been running it continuously - and starts to get forgetful.

I have restarted it a few times recently, as we've had a lot of storms here so I've been shutting her down.

What else would cause this to happen?

Try selecting all and renaming them. That has worked for me. I've had the same thing as you described happen to me.
