What the heck are top hats made of?

I'd appreciate a translation of the text in the film. Seeing the work being done is great, but knowing more information from the description wold be helpful.

I have only encountered Silk Top Hats made in the same method as shown in the Spoorenberg film. I can't confirm the other information mentioned.

Hi Alanfgag

Any chance you could post some specs on this nice golden Top Hat? Looking for:

• Crown Height
• Brim Width
• Does the crown flare/slope outward as the crown gets higher?

I would like to try and make a block similar to that over the next 3 months and see about possibly making a hat based on that. Although my little Jiffy steamer won't be able to handle it, I will have to upgrade to a steam generator.

This hat was behind glass in a museum. You can see a number of old toppers in the Toppers Unite thread, including this one from the mid 1800s which lists dimensions. It is silk, but of a similar form to the museum hat.

Finished up one of the other Top Hats I mentioned previously.

My daughter asked for a Leprechaun hat and this is what I came up with.
