What Podcasts Grab Ya?

I dug up a thread from 2005 suggesting there should be a Fedora Lounge podcast, which surprised me that we were talking about them so early. The comments there are funny, in hindsight.

My wife is very much into true crime stories (and is starting work on her Masters in abnormal psych to back it up). She's just completing her first in a series of podcasts about the hundreds of solved and unsolved murders which have taken place in small towns in Ohio. They tend to be forgotten rather quickly, and she wanted the victims to be remembered with respect and dignity.

I don't have much time or patience (or a regular commute) for regularly listening. I like a series from NPR about the inner workings of our minds, and a couple of others when I can. Brett at The Art of Manliness creates a lot of them. We probably should at some point.

What do you like to listen to? What are your favorites?

...and a host of one-off OTR or modern day audio drama, with some music podcasts for drive time

If the Fedora Lounge could put on a podcast, I would definitely listen in. Lizzie Maine would be a natural for this!

Classic Mysteries - a short review of recently republished mysteries from the Golden Age; Les Blatt, the host, is knowledgeable about the genre and obviously appreciates the books he reviews.

The Warner Archive Podcast - a (almost) weekly podcast that promotes dvds and blu-rays released by Warner Brothers. A good number of the titles are from 30s, 40s, 50s, and more recent years. The three hosts are a trove of film history-

Tonight, The Thrilling Adventure Hour and their presentation of Sparks Nevada, Marshall on Mars. Good quality voice acting with clever repartee. Clearly recorded before a fan-filled audience in an intimate venue. Enjoyed it very much.

And in fact, the podcast, The State of Perfect Balance, has broken the top two hundred iTunes Podcast rankings (of some 700K). 100K subscribers in 90+ countries. Working on episode 23 now.

Just finished American History Tellers podcast about the roots of the Great Depression.
From there jumped into their presentation about J. Edgar Hoover: first episode succinctly sets the historical stage of the early 20th century politics and Hoover's start in what was designed to be a Federal office to address the problem of anarchist plots and terrorism. AHT is not favorable to Hoover, but presents the story will details and context.
