What Not to Wear...

Am I the only one who likes pointy toes? I never have liked round or square toes.

*raises hand* when I can find a pair I can wear, I love them; they make my feet look TINY. And when you're an 8W, tiny is good!

I like heels too. Even stilletos. I like being four inches taller and looking ten lbs. lighter. I have fairly nice legs but no matter HOW nice your legs are you need all the help you can get at 5'1". lol

I LOVE the British version of the show, even though sometimes what they're wearing I kind of do this :eusa_doh: this go like this when they critique other people.... hmmm... but I think it's funny how brutally honest they are. I'd hate to have people do that to me, though.

Have you seen the latest episodes, now that they have replace Trinny and Susannah with a pair of nobodies? It's awful, at least T&S were known for what they do, and have gained respect, this pair are not only hopeless presenters, but they are terrible at pretending to have been friends forever. It's so false. They also try to mimic the Trinny and Susannah style of the show instead of putting their own spin on it.

I generally agree with their principles of making more of an effort in your appearance, but it really annoyed me last week when they were doing ladies who'd had a mastectomy. One of them had chosen for 15 years to go without a prosthetic boob and had fully come to terms with her loss. Though she may have had underlying feelings of loss still (well I don't doubt that she did) they basically bullied her so badly and said "How dare you subject other people to the sight of you with only one breast". It was just a bit ridiculous, in my eyes. "How dare you be comfortable with yourself! I demand you wear this uncomfortable fake breast to ensure other people don't have to see the real you".

I'll admit she did look so much better and so much happier by the end, but still, I though it was a bit tactless in the beginning.

No, I haven't seen them. I think that would be quite terrible to watch- I mean, the girl and guy in America are totally trying to be them already. How strange.

And you're right- that's just disgusting to me. I am so glad I didn't see that episode because I more than likely would have ended up yelling at the tv. Making people uncomforatable by the sight? How about loosing part of your body! The jerks. I say more power to her if she's comforatable enough with her situation to not get the fake boob. Sheesh. :rage:

Trinny and Susannah have defected to the rival station ITV to present what is basically "What not to Wear" but called "Trinny and Susannah undress". I haven't seen it but I think they style couples instead of single people. I actually read yesterday that the new presenters Lisa Butcher and Mica Paris have been friends for 9 years (allegedly) in which case it's just their terrible acting ability that makes it seem like they are complete strangers!

trinny and susannah undress is hilarious because it is soooo uncomfortable to watch! they have basically became marriage counsellors now - i am not a big trinny and 'dinny' fan myself but i am still addicted for some bizarre reason!!!

The British version is definitely better, I haven't seen the new one yet. The American version is awful (I guess they try but I can't stand it) but there are A LOT of people in dire need of a make over, so I guess they are doing an okay job.

I pretty much agree with what Fleur said in her first post.
I only realized that Trinny and Susannah were kind of ok-ish when they were replaced. But guess what, the British show too promotes slenderizing trousers and pointy shoes lol ! And the whole condescending tone, the patronizing and, most of all, the "counseling" are nauseating at times. I for one don't need anyone to "psychoanalyze" my wardrobe!

I turned this show on at my parents' house once. My uber-masculine, 78-year-old father said, "Oh, I've seen this one."

Yes, they're a little snarky, but they really do improve the person's look, IMO.

I LOVE What Not to Wear, both the Brit and US versions. I, for one, ADORE pointy toed shoes. My feet are teeny tiny and my body is chunky, so the longer the toe, the more balanced I look. When I wear round toed shoes, people tell me that I look like I'm going to fall over cause my feet are long enough. What's wrong with slenderizing trousers? No one what's to look like they have a huge bum or enormous hips. I've seen lots of wide leg trousers on WNTW, when it fits the body type, as well as straight leg. I'm happy that they seem to hate flared trousers. I've even seen them do a vintage inspired wardrobe. The lady in question was a recent college grad, in sweat pants and tee and they filled her wardrobe with circle skirts and beaded cardis. There have been a couple episodes that made me mad. But they were just doing their job. The people to be made at are the family and friends who didn't love the "victim" enough to accept her as she was and nominated her for the show.

I have my hang ups about that show, it's contradictive. They ALWAYS want to cut everyones' hair clear off and dye it some boring color.
Makeup is usually way too subdued, to the point of being non-existent.
They seem to always put any woman over thirty in something frumpy looking, while Stacey dresses 20.
There, in lies, the irony. Stacey has long hair and wears a lot of trendy things and she's over 40. Meanwhile the makeup artist has a better makeup job then the people she makes up. I'm wondering if she has someone else do her makeup, but I digress. ;P
I think they need to rework the makeovers. They need to meet the person's personality in the middle. I remember them making over an ex-stripper on one show. They cut all of her hair off (it was pretty long) and dyed it some boring color. You could tell it about killed her. I don't blame her. It just didn't fit her personailty.

I saw one episode of this show, it was a punk girl who was ,in my opinion, rather cute as she was and they took away all her personality and individualism and made her 'beige'. Imagine what they would do to us !!

I've only seen the version where Trinny and Susannah (sp?) were hosts. I agree with some of their make-overs and shape advice and they helped introduce some people to more exciting patterns and colors, I also curled toes when they did the bland, uniform, contemporary high street version of current trends sort of thing. I don't know how else to discribe it but it really irritates me when we're all supposed to be up on fashion..."but play it safe kids" mentality.

Both do absolutely nothing for me. I wish the media would realize that we don't all have the same icons and beauty ideals.

I do the black with bright colors a lot. I LIKE IT! I think it suits me and I like the statement it makes. I don't think it cheapens the color. On the contrary, I think other color combinations often cancel out the effect of each of the colors. No one's ever going to stop me from wearing black with brights!

I know their advice on shoes is usually right but I'll wear what I feel comfortable in and can get the most use out of for the money I paid, most of the time.

I can't bear the thought of what they'd do to our hair. If anyone's allowed to keep their long hair, then bangs and thinned out ends are forced on them. Both is a thing I dislike when they're cut modern. But I realize that most applicants would probably have a more modern outlook on fashion than most of us.

I read this, and instantly thought about my mother. She had a mastectomy several years ago, and doesn't use a breast form. If someone said that to her, I'd blow my stack. Hell, she would beat me to it.

I love this show!

I don't agree with everything they say, but one thing they always focus on is making the person look better and feel better about themselves, no matter what their body shape is. That is really nice to see.

One lady they had on had almost died from a heart attack and lost a bunch of weight and they helped her get professional looking for work.

Another one had lots of kids and a husband overseas in the military and made her look good and she was so happy she cried. I love that type of stuff---some people just take care of everyone else and not themselves.

And I happen to love me some pointy toes---wearing them today! Just not all the time though!

I also love this show. I've seen the British version too, but I thought it was a bit weird when Trinny (sp?) and Susanah (sp?) were trying on the underwear of the lady on the show. Stacey can definitely be a bit smug, but what frustrates me is when these people agree to go on the show and spend the whole time complaining about it. I know that's reality, but I could do with less reality in my reality tv. On the pointy toe shoe front, I think it really depends on the shoe and you. I bought one pair of pointy toed flats (although they certainly weren't serious points and my toes mostly filled the point that was there) and I loved them and wore them out (Payless shoes). They were bright green and even though they're pretty torn up, I still keep them around. I also have a couple of pointier toed shoes I bought for job interviews a few months ago. They're also great, but I don't wear them as much since I tend toward ballet flats right now. So easy and there's no heal for my dogs to chew on.

I love Clinton Kelly, he is so cute. I think the show is OK, I dont think its that great, they really don't do anything new, but they sure do make many of the people look better, the frumpy ones atleast. I think its horrible when they suck the life out of people and make them something they are not...

On the issue of the pointy toe, I AM IN LOVEEEE with them. I think they make me look long and lean, Im 5'7" and I think it works with my body and leg shape. They are classic in my opinion....
