What kind of jacket is he wearing in 3:10 to Yuma

I'm starting research on an impressive jacket I saw in the film "3:10 to Yuma".
This is the guy wearing that jacket "Ben Foster's affected performance as Russell Crowe's loyal but psychopathic sidekick".

Being completely "primitive" in the world of fashion (excluding hats, I must state in defence), I would -perhaps erroneously- describe it as a leather (?) double-breasted confederate cavalry jacket (or short coat).

Does any one have an idea as to what exactly this jacket is, was or could be. I quite frankly would look at finding one (not an authentic civil war vintage one, of course) but ...the re-enactment scene, perhaps?

Would you believe I thought I was the only one noticed that jacket!

I do however have a sherished 35 year old cowboy hat, adorned with a quite broad horsehair hatband plus, over that one, a leather hatband. I'm playing with the idea of asking a local jeweller if he can mount me some rough turquoise stones through one of them hatbands. Guess where I got that idea...
