Does anyone know what kind of jacket Kenneth Tobey is wearing in the original "The Thing" film, from 1951? It looks similar to an A-2.

Is it just a typical A-2, with some kind of emblem on the left chest?

(They never seem to fit that well on me, for some reason...)

Thanks.

I love that movie!
Marshall Dillon as "The Thing" and I believe that's George Fenniman (sp?) from Groucho's TV show at the far left in the top picture.

It's either an A-2, or a studio made copy. The emblem is a squadron patch, typically created for WWII units. It's a leather patch, generally about 5 inches in diameter, with a unit logo or mascot painted on it.

Yeah this was a great movie. It had tons of surplus Air Force gear in it. Including the A-2. Can these pics justify "spiking the collar" of an A-2? great look if you can pull it off.
