What Kind of Fabric is This?

So, I realize that guys aren't supposed to spend much time in the Powder Room, here but I thought this place was better to suited to weigh in on this question than the bomber-jacket-dominated Outerwear section.

I found this coat at a second hand recently and I was just wondering if someone knew what this fabric / knit style:

Seems to be a soft, but heavy wool. Unusual appearance and texture. I'd appreciate any tips, thanks!

Or google Astrakhan--same as Persian Lamb. It's fur. The collar is probably mink. My mother had a an Astrakhan coat. Sometimes, artificial fabric that looks like this comes up, the I do say the pic is the real thing.
