From the view of german market, jeans are one of the typical, permanent reminder, that the era of classic brand is looong over. Storebrand does the job for half the price. 40/50 bucks against 90/100 bucks (50 for Denim, 50 for name ;)).

After the jeans-crisis in the late 90s, classic brand jeans never went back to the old 90s quality.

PS:
Ok, the premium lines are of course an option.

Just like with jackets, Japan to the rescue. Japan, where quality of materials and workmanship is still alive.

I think people should buy what they like, but there is a lot of fantastic denim out there. I used to think the best denim is the one who lasts the longest, but I've found longevity is more fit-based than anything as it seems to me like the stress areas around the crotch break much faster when the jeans fit tighter or they are not a fit to your body type.
I somehow think the same with jacket, the higher the armpit the better the arm movement, the higher the crotch seam/the closer you wear your pants crotch to your own, the less likely it will tear there from pulling, the same with knee, the tighter the knee fit is better than half tight because since the pants is tight on the knee, the first time you sit when you wear your shoes it will ride up and bunching there for the rest of the day so next time you sit or squat it doesn't pull and strain the fabrics again. while semi tight fit/ slim fit will drop straight every time and every time again it will try to find room to accommodate your sudden movement thus get higher chance of tearing, so in my opinion unless youre going with relax straight leg the little extra wiggle room on the leg might require you to pull the pants up before sitting or doing big movements or might break the pants on the ass and knee in the long run.

Fit is king. Pants, jackets, hats, everything. All else is a pleasant luxury.

True, but it's more complicated.
If fit is king then there are a myriad of diverse royals out there to genuflect towards. The idea of a good fit seems almost as subjective as what colour to choose.

That's the thing, I never comprehended.

A ripping jeans never happened to me, even as kid in the 90s I don't remember that happening. So, what do they all to rip their crotch area that often? Too much bicycle or what?
Does it happen on non-elasthane jeans or slim-fit jeans without elasthane??

I never have skinny jeans ripping on the crotch through a decade wearing them, this is exclusive raw denim thing phenomenon most likely perfect storm caused by 100% cotton,+ high starch content in the fabric to enhance the creases and sharp fading, + repetitive activity to promote that fading like excessive bicycling + not washing over long period of time while wearing it daily, and perhaps sometime people gain weight while still breaking the same pants.

I wear raw jeans I rarely wash everyday since dec 2018 before that I only wear black skinny jeans , downsized so a bit skinny on me, but I don't do cycling, or gaining weight, only wear it indoor ,
and after a year shared by two pants so maybe 6 months of wear each they don't even fade one bit let alone blowing out

I think these are some of my better fade efforts.
Funny thing is, they aren't denim, they're canvas.
Hope no one minds me popping them in here

I totally ruined a selvedge canvas pair of pants by Freenote cloth. I didn't realize that they were made to fade like selvedge denim, so I popped it into the wash. The spin cycle caused the canvas to streak. So bummed. Now I just wear them for yard work.

Streak as it created permanent streaks on the fabric? I have a pair of indigo moleskin chinos from Gustin, just a most beautiful deep blue color and am not sure how I should wash them.

Definitely inside out, at least.
My above ones have an annoying machine stripe, unphotographed, after just one quick wash the right way out, that was when still wet and not new.
