that belt digging into the jacket and I do some kneading on the side panel to get more broken in so it can drape closer to body when worn open
I feel like kneading leather is a really good, and not often discussed technique. I have used it to great effect on vintage pieces, but I've never tried it on a newer piece. looks great man.

thank you man, with cardboard like vegtan, all the panels are equally stubborn, so I think its helpful to soften one panel so it will be the designated conforming panel that will collapse and expand as needed just like the shoulder gusset panel, but since the side panel is not sewn in the way that works for articulation (unlike for example triangular side panel on a cossack jacket that is designed to fold when the side cinch is adjusted), so I just make them much softer than surrounding panels so it will give in first whenever needed.

I now see why some of y'all love wool half belts so much. This mid 40s Sportclad is perfect. Interesting that it doesn't actually have a front drop. My leather Sportclad is similar but this one is more noticeably shorter in the front. I actually kind of like it.

Huge thanks to @tmitchell59 for this beauty

Thanks! Yes, you can feel it if you wear a short sleeve shirt, but even in that case it's still wearable for me. A thin chambray allows it to poke through a bit even in the back, but I don't mind it much.

Great jacket and fits you perfectly

Thanks! I'm thrilled with the fit.
Nice old-timey look, Jake.

The more vintage jackets I get, the more old school I feel like dressing.

Thanks! I see why you love this type of jacket so much. I love how it fits and the colors are a fun change of pace from leather.

Sadly I had to abandon my pursuit for an original. I took the 40’s-50’s wool westerns as a consolation prize. I’m sure you’ll find (as I have) these jackets get far more complimentary remarks than leather stuff. To this day, this jacket is my absolute favorite piece of clothing.

Not nearly as old time cool as the HB’s but these are the only wools I can find with wearable lengths. I can’t wait to bust this out for the season. If it ever arrives….

Yeah ill be interested to see how people react when I get to wear the jacket more. I got a lot of looks when I wore it the other evening, but I can't tell if they were positive or not.

The western ones are cool too. I tried to buy one at Inspiration last year, but it was too big for me. Yours looks fantastic

Perfect!

I got this from England back in March. I was thicker during this pic, so looking forward to wearing this fall. They also came a bit longer with a half belt

These were very popular through out the 30s and 40s. Japanese sites typically have a variety of styles. This jacket is late 30s
