What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

Bit of overkill for 46 degree morning but I’d be so pissed if I didn’t get at least one wear out of this vintage Windward this year. This is the only jacket I have that I truly love. The rest is crap by comparison. So I shall fetch eggs and bacon like the revenant (except I’m just walking to Mariano’s).

Y’2 Leather teacore horsehide vest. I would like your opinion on whether this jacket’s length is too long or is OK.

Personally I think you pull this vest off well. It's slightly longer than the two vests I own (one wool, one waxed cotton). Could it be shorter? Yes, but I don't know if you would like it more. The boots are great with that vest. I'd keep it!

How do you like the Y2 leather itself compared to some of the other higher end stuff you’ve had?

the leather itself is almost alive, in that when you pick it up, it responds by growing richer grain patterns. It is a cross between my Iron Heart IHJ-35 cafe jacket and the Fine Creek jacket. I love it because it makes for comfortable wearing rather than awkward wrestling.

I'm not sure. So okay, it looks good but on the other hand, it's undoubtedly... Well long. It's got that apron-ish look going on. Since this is the kind of garment that's supposed to be worn either under a coat, though sometimes over, leather vest oughtn't stick out from under the hem of the jacket or hang over it.

Vests such as this one are designed to end just at your belt line 'cause it's got no sleeves to hold it in place so what happens is when you sit down, it gets pushed up and the shoulders end up sticking out and it looks silly.

On the other hand, I do not at all dislike the way it looks at you. I don't know. It's good.

Main issue I've got with it is that I've no clue what is it supposed to be. It can't be a biker vest even though it's styled as one because it's definitely too long for that and if it's something else... Then I have no idea what.

I agree with all you wrote. Since I never saw this vest as a waist coat, I wasn’t particularly worried about its length but at the same time I was hoping it was shorter. However, there are numerous qualities I like about this vest, more than one thing I dislike. That tilts the balance toward keeping it.

not to rub it in, 85 out by me today. Pretty soon time for leather jacket and boxer shorts weather. I will get my wears in ;). Everyone may want to click over my WJAYWT posts for the next few months LOL But I promise not to wear any of the short styles :eek:

If you like it then absolutely keep it. No actual reason not to as it fits you really nice. I'm only stating what I'd want out of my vest which is the best anyone can say as we're just sharing subjective opinions but by no means does it fit you bad. TBH, if I saw you in town wearing that vest, I'd think "Hey, that dude is so cool!".

46 degrees, OMG!
I've never found much vintage that would fit, that is a real beauty.

It’s a challenge for me as well. I can do, like most folks, the 60’s and later. The cuts pre 1960 we’re just so much different. A harder nut to crack for sure. For me though an original piece just feels so much more...I don’t even no what the word is. If I was told I could only keep one, it would be this one and I wouldn’t hesitate or likely even miss the rest. I just really like the feeling I have wearing this jacket...I just don’t get it from the others. Not sure why.

@AbbaDatDeHat put it nicely, "The squeak of old leather when you breath, the second skin glove fit and that old friend feeling".

Blindingly bright harsh sunlight outside.
standing way too far from mobilephone cam, no mirror behind the mobilephone to check my distance unlike the usual spot.

Hmm i have this theory again , leather jacket is getting more drape and softer just by hanging on a hanger affected by gravity and probably air aging it. I dont remember the back panel to be so broken in last time, and i dont wear this jacket a lot.
