You should take better photos of this jacket, some of the nicest horsehide I've seen. Never woulda believed it Avirex had it in them! :D
Will do. Thanks!

I told Stuart "go full heavy" and he did, 4.5+oz! Breaking it in as i type this, it is night and day compared to my 3.5oz J-24.
I wouldn't say i like it more or less, it is different.
Saying that, after wearing the 4.5 for a couple hours going back down to 3.5 feels weird, like you are putting on a thin mall jacket... Not sure i would order a second one that thick though, i think 4.0 might be the sweet spot for me.

I have a few Horween CXL HH and Steerhide jackets and a Chopper. All heavier. They all have their place in my life and I really like them for the „butch“ look and the armour-like feel.
At the same time, my LW is just such a treat to put on. So easy wearing and never obstructive or too this or that. I really cannot praise that one enough (as you have noticed…)

To me they are different.
CXL is heavy because it is full of wax, not really because it is that thick. Also i think the Aero patterns get uncomfortable in heavy leather, too much weight on the neck.
I also have a Chopper, it is still my heaviest jacket, but it is much thinner than the 4.5 LW, i think the fact that it has padding, plastic in the kidney panel and heavy hardware really adds on some weight that wouldn't be there otherwise.

The LW feels super thick, but it is more comfortable than my CXL jackets or my Chopper, it's just a better pattern.
It never feels like i am fighting the jacket, it really feels great, even at 4.5oz it is "never obstructive".

But the squeek! I couldn't sneak up on anything right now, even breathing is noisy!

I own a LW supposedly "4+" HH jacket and I can second your notion. The CLX Steerhide on my older Aeros is thicker and the jackets heavier (newer Aeros not so much). My Johnson Leather made from dark brown cowhide of unknown tannery (maybe some Horween stuff Aero doesnt offer, texture is very similar) is even thicker. The LW is in the 6-7 lbs weight range just like Vanson jackets of same size, so probably in fact 3.5 oz-ish. I do believe Stu likes to overexagerate on the thickness of his HH. I heard from @Logician it used to be heavier, maybe he has trouble sourcing heavy hides since all the horsehide rage started ten years orso ago?

Anyway, the LW pattern makes the jacket very comfortable as it puts most of the weight on the shoulders where as the Aeros put much weight on the neck and can be uncomfortable. (I have spent some time thinking this through and I believe it is due to too high and narrow neckholes.)

Agreed. And he does. My jacket is very, very heavy, over 4 kg (the box was 4.2 kg) but the leather isn't that incredibly thick. If I am to compare it with something, it'd be Vanson though perhaps it's a bit thicker. Hard to compare since LW hide is extremely... Dense. Don't know how to describe it. It's a solid hide, moreso than most others. But it's got no more oz-age than my Aero CR which is really thick.

Sleeve length looks good. For my taste, it could be an inch shorter in the body (it should cover belt but this goes so far over pants that you can't access front pockets anymore, that's a tad too long imo) and I would want broader shoulders, by atleast an inch. This looks uncomfortably trim in the shoulder area, especially when you try to move in it.

Agreed yes I think it’s a bit to long as well, shoulders I think are ok I’m pretty scrawny and all my other Areo jackets are around the same shoulder width and don’t create any movement issues

Cool! I really like the Happy Days. I'd probably spec mine without epaulets. What leather you going with?

Yes mine will be without epaulets that’s a must for this jacket I don’t like epaulets, still tossing up between what leather to go with though , my short list is Battered Steer, Dark Seal Vicenza and Tobacco Badalassi, I’ve either owned or tried on A2 jackets in all 3 leathers now so probably leaning towards the Vicenza at the moment, not sure about knits and stitch colour though think I want want something that contrasts, linings are another thing I have it in my head I want a red satin lining which may look better with the blacked brown Vicenza, I’m hoping Carrie can offer some guidance/advice on my final decision.

Can't wait to see what you end up with there.
