The commuter jackets are actually very good at what they're designed for. It was pouring rain last night on the way home from work. I was riding on my scooter and only got a bit wet at one of the sleeve openings and between a couple of the snaps on the front. The jacket had begun to take on water after 15 minutes but didn't feel wet on the inside. I normally wear one of the longer horsehide Aero jackets that I have when I know I'll be in the rain but was caught by surprise last night.

That's what most of my leather jackets behave like in the rain. They're good for 15 minutes but then the leather starts soaking up the rain. Never goes thru, though, but I'm still angry because I know I'm going to have to leave the jacket to dry for at least a day.

In the chilly mid 20's here this morning. Good excuse to wear the Spiewak & Sons 'B-1' out for some errands. :)

This 'B-1' looks suspiciously like the B-15D to me. ;) It is a light, warm jacket, made with a quality 60 / 40 cotton & nylon-blend shell. Both zippers are Ideal brand.

Hello all. Long time lurker, seldom poster here. I've recently moved to Canada from UK so it's constantly jacket weather here at the moment. I have a small collection of "fashion leathers", but have a bigger interest in the more vintage styles. I picked up my first proper vintage jacket but was wondering if any of you can identify it. There are no labels on it whatsoever. I'm hazarding a guess that it's from the 80s (so not quite vintage).

That, Rawky, is a Raider or G8 jacket, a civilian flight jacket popular in the 1980's - Kevin Costner wears one in Field of Dreams. Some say the pattern is 1950's. I heard it was designed in the 1970's by Neil Cooper. I haven't seen one with that kind of wool lining before. Looks like a more recent version. The most famous version was the Charles Chavignon version worn by McGyver in that hokey series. Many companies made versions including Lost Worlds.

It's an Avirex G2. You can tell by the partial windflap under the zipper, the curved stitching around the cargo packets, the bi-swing back, the underarm gussets and the zipper & zipper pull. It's had the lining replaced though.

They're all over ebay: http://www.ebay.tv/sch/i.html?_sop=12&_nkw=avirex+g2+jacket&_frs=1

You're right, it's from the eighties, and McGvyer did wear one:

Yeah it looks very similar, although mine appears to have a thicker hide than the one in the picture.

The Raider was made by the thousands in goat, cow, lamb, in black, brown and distressed hides, thick and thin by a range of makers. Even McGyver wore a couple of versions. The one in the photo is a distressed lamb Chavignon.
