This arrived last night. Iron Heart J-35 in japanese horsehide. Just some quick pix done at work, worried somebody might walk in on me any moment.
Powerband has posted great close-ups of the design and construction (and has been a massive aid in my own decision making).
Snug fit that already loosened up after a few hours of indoor wear (Oh the rolling eyes of the wife…!). As Powerband observed, very comfortable to wear due to the underarm-construction and the action-gussets in the back.
This is a size "Large". Measurements are (roughly) 19" shoulders and 22" P2P. I usually wear 18,5" shoulders and 23" P2P. I could use the extra inch in the body, but the leather will give me that once I start breaking it in for real. I tried to layer with a medium- weight wool jumper and even that is workable, although not yet ideal.
I really must comment on the hide. I am a Horween-guy, so this jacket is not at all heavy but my standards. It is pretty pliable right out of the box. The leather is just lovely, with a soft, luxurious hand and a wonderful smell. I know that Iron Heart, as compared to the makers more promiment here, is an industry manufacturer, but they really use top-notch materials. This was a pretty spontaneous buy after seeing the pictures of Powerband, and I don´t think I will regret that one.
Beautiful jacket, Terry. Very interesting coin pocket placement, and upon close inspection of the photos, I see stitching detail around that pocket as well as the adjacent zip pocket. Nice feature!A 1947 Sportclad. I found these pics while searching my files. The nicest leather I have ever encountered on a vintage jacket for sure, as nice as any new leather I have owned. Very much like Shinki.
This was purchased from the nephew of the original owner who bought it and never wore it. Size 46 tag in pocket.
Here is a thread I did on this guy.

Terry the Sportclad is outstanding and pristine. That back panel is amazing and when blown up unbelievable.A 1947 Sportclad. I found these pics while searching my files.
