I've thought about shooting my Leather jackets with Guitars. I've got both.

Himmel Heron and 1937 Model 27 square neck Dobro.

Schott Car Coat with a Sou'west Chunkies Sweater

I have that same exact sweater! Don't you just love the smell? Seriously, I like it. Oh wait, is yours made from undyed black sheep wool? If so, it has that natural lanolin, barnyard smell.

My sleeves were too short, and Peter, from Sou'west, told me to soak them (just the sleeves), stretch them out on the floor, and put a heavy weight on each cuff to hold them stretched out until dry (2 or 3 days). I did it - used 25 pound dumbbells and really stretched the sleeves. It gave them another three inches in length, that has not gone away over the last five years.

Sou'west has three women who knit their sweaters - one knits sleeves, one knits body panels, and the third knits them all together.

And Peter - the guy you deal with via email - jovial, lighthearted, friendly, and knowledgeable.

It's my favorite sweater.

This one's dyed I think. Or maybe it's undyed but with some bits of colored wool thrown in to creat the neps? I'm not really sure. It does have a nice smell to it.

I've heard the same for stretching the sleeves. Mine started a bit long and has gradually shrunk so now it's slightly short. I'll have to give it a soak and stretch it back out a bit some time.

I'm not sure if Peter is still in business. I know a couple years ago he was having difficulty due to recent flooding and his knitters going back to Ukraine because of the civil unrest there.

Great fit!! I bet it weighs a ton :) Out of curiosity what size did you buy and your actual chest?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's a 38-one size down than my normal 40ish chest. Definitely for this steer I'd not want to go down two sizes. I am not sure about horse. Super pliable stuff, but my goodness very heavy. Box was 9lbs. :)

Yeah, mine has some light colored wool mixed in too. I didn't want it, but Peter had some reasons for doing it that I have forgotten. If yours has a smell, it's unprocessed, undyed black sheep wool.

Sad to hear that they might be out of business. I just checked and their website is still up, but the email links don't work. So I copied the email address and pasted it into my email server and sent them a short letter asking if they were still open, and hoping they were. I'll let you (all) know if I hear from them.

I just did a google search for Sou'west Chunkies and found this - the only picture of you indoors that I have ever seen!

IMG_9452.JPG

That photo is from around 3 years ago. That sweater is actually a gansey made by another knitter that had gone out of business and sold his stock to Peter.

I was wearing the same jeans Yesterday as those in the gansey photo. They're a pair of Gustin Super Heavies. This is what they look like today.

Wow, the jeans look better now than when new. I thought that only happened with leather. Nice to see you back outside again! ;)
