The B-17.

fam, Schomburg- Wayne WWII, Wayne, 381st BG (2).jpg

Primarily because my Uncle Wayne Schomburg (really my mom's first cousin but we called him Uncle) was a pilot with the 381st BG, 534th Sq. stationed at Ridgewell England. He flew 25 missions over Europe only to be killed in a plane crash on base on March 31, 1944. RIP Uncle Wayne.

Others would be the P-51 and P-47 that escorted the B-17's.

Curtiss P-36 Hawk and Brewster F2A Buffalo
Both saw very limited US service during WWII but were used more extensively by various other countries, particularly Britain, Finland, France, and the Netherlands. In the case of Finland the Brewster Buffalo was the mount of several of their aces.

Surely some of you guys remember the Whop, Whop, Whop of my rotor blades as I came in under fire to get you out before you died of bullet wounds or shrapnel injuries? Surely you do.

"Lima Charlie on that. Flat Iron Longhorn 01 over, Roger-Dodger out."

And thanks bro.:D

2018 is our golden wedding anniversary year, although the date itself is not until May. It's a landmark date, and to be frank, one which we both feel very proud to celebrate. Past momentous celebratory dates have seen us ride The Orient Express, steam hauled. Cruise the Caribbean, stand at the foot of The Pyramids and one or two others as well.
My recent hip replacement operation has made planning an event rather difficult, so we have agreed to simply have a meal out at our favourite watering hole, in the company of a few close friends, then over the summer we are going to tick off a number of bucket list wishes. First up is a flight in a pre-war Rapid Rapide Bi-plane. I'm waiting for conformation, but hopefully it will be sometime during the first weekend of June. The flight will be from Duxford Airport, a former RAF base during WW2. We shall fly over many sights of Eastern England culminating in a fly over London, total time is about 90 minutes. After that, wait and see. Keep an eye on the Adventure thread.

That's one flight I would like to do too, maybe this year as you have inspired me to get it earlier than planned.

And next to Catalina Flightboat: F16

Say, what you want. Great, ass-kicking machine, working-horse and best mass-production fighter, ever!
