Lets hope this is just a prank like the roaming Gnomes, and he will turn back up with some great vacation photos!

I sure hope so. Either that, or he'll end up in someone's garden. I wouldn't have thought that kids would be bothered to take something that heavy very far.

Certain people will pinch anything, even from a church.

Hopefully it's returned intact and those responsible have the book thrown at them. Although it's probably more likely if they do eventually catch them, that they'll get the equivalent of a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket.

Well behind the front lines!

There has always been an element which knows no sense of decency or any lines that cannot be crossed. Frankly, there's a chance whoever took this has no idea what it represents.

Yeah, I can hear it later; someone swipes something and another says it needs to be returned. The first person will say, "Are you bonkers? Remember what happened to the people who stole that RAF head? No, we'll ditch it in a bog somewhere it'll never be found..."

About twenty years ago, a couple of potheads broke into a tomb here in town, while high, and stole the skull of a Civil War general. They carried it around a while, then tossed it into a drainage ditch. The perpetrators got their hands slapped, because they were the sons of "good families."

The worse part is that many of the UK's laws seem to be a lot more lenient than ours with the likely outcome of the offenders merely getting a "caution." Not to digress but there was a road rage incident that had occurred over there where a bus driver deliberately hit with his bus a cyclist whom he had been arguing with. The bus driver got seventeen months for "reckless driving!" Here that would be attempted murder or assault with a deadly weapon.

Stealing this is a pretty low thing to do.

Who did it; Vandals or "collectors" who knows, as yet.

But, please, as the only Britisher posting on this thread, they're our laws, so, please don't knock 'em. I'm sure there are plenty of laws in your own country you think are weak, so I'll sort mine when you've sorted yours.

Good point, as soon as you start criticsing laws you stray into political territory. Just image if we started to discuss firearm laws ........
