My uncle sent more pictures of his Stetson Diplomat Vita Felt. I think the story goes that it sat in this box in the garage of one of his parishioners for 30 years or so. He would love to know anything more about it that anyone can share. Maybe an Antiques Road Show estimate appraisal. He's excited to learn more about his hat.
Thanks,

what there is to know is that it is a Stetson Vita Felt hat made in the early to mid 1940s

very nice color and edge treatment ... looks to be what was called a "wafer edge" at the time

the box is insignificant for it is just a generic hat box and not something the hat would have come in most likely

the model is quite rare if I remember correctly from earlier posts

depending on the size it could demand a fairly high price tag ... that is unless it is my size ... in that case it is worth about $80 and should be put in the mail to my address ASAP

Thanks for all the info, I am studying hats now. My uncle's hat is a 7-3/8 size. I already tried and he isn't going to sell it to me, and isn't going to leave it to me in his will (mumble, grumble).
Come on now guys, if this went up on auction on the bay, what do you think it would fetch. I'll buy the next round if someone makes a ballpark guess. It would make the old man happy to get any kind of idea. I can't find any comparable anywhere online.

:)

Thanks!

It looks nice... I was thinking perhaps an Akubra Campdraft Deluxe in moonstone or a Stetson Royal Deluxe Open Road in caribou?

Thanks much...

I'm inclined to agree with Jared. The color looks closer to Stetson's Caribou than Akubra's Moonstone but, with the way these damned hats photograph, who knows?

Edit 02/23/18: @Abraham This morning I stumbled across the online article about Mr. Fraser that included that photo, and here's the other photo that was posted:

I've seen Akubra's Moonstone photograph in a variety of hues from gray to very blue, but I've never seen it photograph as brown so I'm 99.9% certain his hat isn't an Akubra Campdraft.

A lid that has a crown just like a fedora, complete with ribbon...but it had a bill on it like a ballcap. It didn't look cheap, it looked like a well-made fur felt hat.

Have you ever seen anything like this?
What is it called? Who sells such a thing?
Thanks
