Mayser "Grosser Preis" / M. Mertés Hutfabrik, Inh. Max Hecht Nürnberg Karolinenstr. 8, possibly mid to later 1920s. Very difficult to find mélange Felt Stiff Felts. Like everything about this one. Found it back in 2022.

This one rolled in a couple of weeks ago, and finally got its pubic premier today. Stetson Old West Collection (the 80s grouping, I think) Bat Masterson.

Love the color combo on this one!!! I would like to go this route on one of my next conversion hats. Do you know the names. The felt looks like Pecan or possibly Acorn??? No guess on the band.

After working some extra days recently, I sorted myself out a four day weekend from Friday to Monday. We spent it having an early celebration of Etsuko’s birthday, since I will be in Australia with 74 screaming kids on the actual day. Two nights in Osaka, so same hats every day. Mine was my beaver Hornskov Emissary in Black Cherry.

burrr! 22 degrees and 15 mph wind. And getting colder... (front is just now blowing through) a bit too chilly for my liking, but I have places to go and people to see today. So I choose one of the heavier Cowboy Conversions to keep my handsome grey hair warm lol. Bundled up in lots of wool this morning

Rollin, sorry to say I do not. Historical documentation of the Old West Collection(s) is notoriously hard to find, and the paper tag under the sweat on this is the ONLY thing that has not survived in pristine condition. There was ONLY enough left remaining of that flaking-away-tag to determine one word of the style was Masterson.

No problem. I recently found some vintage ribbon from Italy that looks to be a pretty close match. I may go ahead and order some. The felt color seems to be close to Stetson's Acorn but I know they have also used many other names in the past for similar shades.

Thanks, Stefan. When we go to Osaka, our main meal of the day is usually lunch. We tried a new (to us) sushi place on day 1. It was nice, but not great. Day two, shown in the photos, was a tried and true sushi place. We branched out and went to a place that specialises in oysters on day 3.

Hat originally was a 4-1/42" brim western with a 5-1/2" crown and a cattlemans crease. Not sure what model as there was no tag remaining. A decent 4x from 90s or early 2000s. ( it was a $25 Goodwill auction project hat) I trimmed the brim to 2-3/4" and worked it back out to an open crown and did some flange work to give it a snap brim. Re-did the bash similar to a Stratoliner. Did some ribbon work but its not sewn in yet and I am thinking about doing up a campaign ribbon for it. its a nicewarm, heavyweight hat that stays put on the head in wind

Thanks Rick - I'm still learning, but that's the kind of stuff I really like!
I've steered away from silverbelly hats in the past because I was afraid the color was so iconic to western hats that I would not be able to achieve a good fedora look. However, seeing your hat here has made me rethink everything. I may have to pick one up now and give it a go.
