On the Eleventh Day of StingyMas

Dobbs Twenty - On this.. the final day of StingyMas 2024, I bring to you this 1950s Dobbs Twenty in deep blue color. This is a hat that in all likelihood did not start its life as a stingy… but for whatever reason… a fashion choice or damage had It’s once likely 2 1/2 inch Guild Edge brim shortened into about as high quality a stingy you might find… whoever did this also appears to have made a valiant attempt to recreate the look of the Cavanagh edge which once adorned this thick luxurious dark blue felt. Thanks to @jlee562 for sending this one my way some years back.

Wonderful colour, Joe. Love the wide ribbon, too. A great finalé to stingymas.

Happy Festivus!

On the final day of Stingymas, I chose to wear my favourite short brim for an evening's festivitas.

A very modern Borsalino bought new in 2015 at Petitgas in Copenhagen.

At a tad under 1.6 inches, it's the shortest short brim in my collection.

Thank you Steve. Love your stingy Borsalino. What a beautiful two tone ribbon treatment.

Heading out for coffee in my first scratch built hat for its first public outing this morning. Got the Sweatband sewn in and Liner fit last night. Did a little steaming and let it sit on a brim block overnight to get a little snap in the brim. Felt is really soft so I may end up with some stiffener on the brim to hold the shape a little better. Kind of a Fedora / Western crossover as it sits right now. Im sure there will be some more shaping before Im done. Going to play with some different ribbon/ bow combinations for the hatband over the next couple days

Great looking hat Rick. Congrats on your first one from scratch - that's darn impressive!

Wow you are making me miss the cold. It's another Christmas in the tropics for me. Sigh. Thanks for the chilly photos, they inspire me to get back to the US before winter passes me by completely!

At least it's been cool enough some mornings here for a light jacket. And my jacket happens to be of Christmas cheer!

Merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah, happy New Year, frigging awful Festivus and all that jazz from Ubud, Bali!! Best wishes to all.

Snowy River post mods.jpg

Final work hat of the day for me in 2024 (I'm not breaking up for Christmas, I'm just not normally allowed to wear hats at work)

Akubra Snowy River, Rounded the crown into a more traditional Pork Pie, and folded the brim down in one corner ala Oppenheimer. The rabbit pin is in memory of my beloved pet who we lost in the summer, the red clip is in memory of someone else I lost this year. (not a great year for my loved ones)

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, For those of you who do not celebrate Christmas, I hope this time of year is restful for you and I wish you all good vibes and goodwill.
