Glad to hear from you, Nathan; your presence is missed here. Thanks for the T-day wishes, and I hope things go well for you in Bali.

Good to hear from you again. Hope the health has been on the up.

Nice to hear from you Nathan...for awhile there you really were living up to your screen name.lol. Have a good time in Bali and safe travels !!

Good to see ya pop in Nathan. Hope all is well

These greetings coincided with my move to Bali and subsequent illness and flew under the radar. I always appreciate the community here - thank you gentlemen!

After seeing the post of the Barbisio Cow Boy this weekend, It reminded me of one of my Stetsons.... An Imperial Ultimate felt. Dark Grey felt and Khaki ribbon/ binding

After three dreary, chilly, soggy days, were welcoming a bit of sun and 70 degrees today. Time to take off the jackets and pull out a tropical!

Very nice one, Rick. These contrasting ribbons spice things up for sure.

Today (Monday), Etsuko’s in the same hat. Me in my Hornskov Broker.

Back home, I fired up the shichirin grill to grill some more seafood we bought down south. The hat was my barbecue hat - the Akubra Cattleman.

Now that's some posting I like to see, Gary. A parade of hats and fine food. Fabulous! I'm liking that Hornskov more and more.

A few days ago I read here on FL that it was the day dedicated to black felt hats.
So I am late in celebrating hats that are, in my personal opinion, synonymous with elegance and also a bit of mystery
View attachment 663040
Let's start with a classic German hat produced by Mayser. A very graceful and streamlined profile
View attachment 663041
The ribbon bow is without a design and this makes the silhouette even sharper.
View attachment 663049
The felt is of medium consistency and dyed in a light black compared to others more dark.
The next few days will be dedicated to the various interpretations of the black hats
View attachment 663051
In the meantime, I thank you for the likes that you kindly give me, mine are for all of you even when they are not obvious.
Fantastic hat, Daniele. We do need more love here for black hats.

Second black hat of the series to celebrate, belatedly, the day dedicated to them.
View attachment 663196
Yesterday a classic of the Sixties/Seventies, today a rarity of the Twenties.
French hat from the JOB hat factory or hats shop in Lezignan - Narbonne - France.
View attachment 663197
It has a "silky" felt made of wool and fur and its shape is typical of the period of European hats as high crown and ribbon plus wide brims.
View attachment 663198
The felt is very malleable and despite the years does not need steam. The hands are more than enough to shape it. Unlined it has a medium weight and a notable charm.

Have a nice day and thanks for your likes on the yesterdays's black
Wow, is all I can say. That hat has some presence! Wonderful.
One of the more unusual hats from my collection, Hawes Von Gal c.1910. Stiff hats and straws show up from time to time but I don't remember seeing another soft hat from this company that faded away after WWI. Condition is very fine.

29 degrees here @ Rock Bottom this morning. Good sense would have me wearing a heavier hat today but I want to show y'all one of the new additions to my collection. It is a lightweight fedora from Gimbel, established in 1865. The hat features a reed-less sweatband and vent holes in the crown. This hat is so lightweight that it is easy to forget you have a hat on your head.
Hope y'all have a good 'un !

Feels like I've seen that hat before somewhere. Leaves an impression that one. Outstanding!

Rare Mid 40s Premier Vita-Felt, gotten fairly cheap makes me even happier. View attachment 663437 View attachment 663441 View attachment 663445
What a beauty, Randall.
That smile is fully justified with a hat like that, Jim, even on a grey day.

The car has had a few problems of late, the wipers being the main issue.
Richard, the MG specialist who looks after it for me, called to collect it.
"Colour coordination," he joked, on seeing me. "What?" I asked,
"colour coordination," he repeated, pointing to the MG. "Well I
have had some remarks," I said and left the rest unspoken.

Anyone would think that I am red & cream obsessive.

Now why would they think that?;) Make sure to reunite with the MG as soon as possible, Robert. Hard to picture either one of you without the other.

Friday the 13th is upon us and it's 22 degrees down here @ Rock Bottom. Brrrr !
I have been fortunate to acquire a couple nice Borsalino fedoras lately and shared one with y'all yesterday. Today's hat is a Borsalino Feather Weight that should fit right in with the Friday the 13th theme. You see, this hat originally came from the factory rolled up and stuffed in what is known as a "coffin box", which is about the size of a shoe box, but narrower. The guy I got the hat from was kind enough to pack the hat in a suitable size box to also accommodate the coffin box so no worries about my hat arriving all squished up. Thanks Brent !

The fit and finish on this hat is quite remarkable. The felt is thin and very malleable. I really like the unreeded sweatband and notice that this one also has the Borsalino "corrugated " strip in the front of the sweatband whereas the Columbo I posted yesterday did not.

* I've been informed that the box I have is not a " coffin box" after all. Pics of real coffin box are posted later in this thread.

Really cool find, Timmy. The coffin box hats usually come in a different type box. Please post the Borsalinos in the Borsalino thread as well with the labels and such. For posterity.

I transitioned to the far side of Bali about ten days ago and promptly fell sick with a bad flu. Yesterday was my first day in the ocean since being in Bali.

Catching the flu straight away was an inauspicous start to my time here, so it was a great relief to have a visit this evening from a school of dolphin (sea mammal kind). This is the scene from my hotel balcony; they are too far out for a clear photo, but it's alway special to have flipper pop in for a visit. A visit from sea mammals turns a quiet bay into a place of magic.

I have been following the hat parade with much pleasure - you guys have certainly enlarged your collections this year in a tremendous way. Here I am with the FED IV a few weeks back before leaving Melaka, along with my good friend from Kashmir whose brother named me The Lost Cowboy.

Best to you all from Amed, Bali.
Great to hear from you, Nathan. Sorry the trip to Bali began on such a harsh note. Hopefully it will be much smoother for you now.
