I didn't know it was Black Hat Day but they taught me in the Boy Scouts to "Be Prepared."

Scungy... A new word for me

I always rush my selfies as I feel awkward, well at least in public.

Great looking hat and suit!
I was surprised to find spell check wanted to “fix” it for me. After all, it’s in the Oxford.

After the spellcheck struggles and your comment, I checked an American dictionary.

I don’t know how you have survived without this magnificent word. Glad I could expand your vocabulary.

Doctors visit today. Four compliments in less than four hours; the doctor, the nurse, another patient, and, during lunch, my waitress who likened me to Walter White in Breaking Bad. A stretch, but I guess I'll take it :)

That's quite a run for just one day, Randy! I usually garner maybe 2 compliments a week, and that's only if I am out and about a lot. Of course, that Gannon IS a rather awesome hat!

I've been posting a bunch of western style hats lately but I don't want anyone to think I've forgotten about fedoras. This morning I'm out and about in my Knox Tom 'n' Jerry . At first I wasn't sure about the stitching on the brim but it has grown on me. What I am most impressed with is the "feel" of the felt. It molds like clay and reminds me of both of my Mr. Disney hats from the 40's.
*just this ol hillbilly opinion, ymmv.lol.

A true Knox Tom N Jerry with the wide brim with spiral stitching is one that has eluded me. Beautiful example you have there!

A lucky find among a pile of hats sold in France.
All labeled as size 56, they intrigued me and I took the risk especially for two of them
View attachment 661236 Only one, this one, proved successful.

It is a hat that will end up among the "new hats" shortly, in the meantime you can see it after a bit of care

Sold by Labolle in Angers - France it has no other distinctive signs under the sweatband, other than the indication of the size in 59 centimeters and in the French scale 6

Beautiful velour with a satin finish and an excellent colour. I really like. The others soon
Beautiful felt, Daniele.

Good excuse to pull out a black hat again today.....Thrilled to get a nice Concho hatband in from ebay. Handworked metal and turquoise is real, but Im pretty sure its nickle silver...(not real silver). Really nice southwestern hatband ...Definately not mass produced or stamped. Perfect fit with the Resistol Curled Brim project. I was going to whip up a black leather strap, but I kinda like the pizzaz the brown leather adds against the black. ( if anyone doesnt follow over there...more details on the conchos in the "What hat are you working on?" section)

Ads a really nice contrast, Rick. Love the whole conversion

Chilly, Rainy day here. time to trot out an Akubra. This is an Akubra Coobalah with the brim trimmed to 2-1/2". To me it just felt like the brim was too big for the modest height crown. I like it a lot better like this. Also replaced the origional lopsided Crocodile hatband with a nice feathered one ( Plus a little tickler feather added on the side lol). The band came off of a Stetson Weekender, but I was able to get an Akubra pin for it to keep the Australian vibe
