I'm not really wearing this today, but laying in my hospital bed after minor surgery with nothing to do. Perusing eBay I see a beautiful MacLachlan (my favorite brand) Forty. It is a size 7, so I think "ah, Ignacio would take care of that easily, because it has a wide brim". I keep scrolling, growing more excited and wondering what an unbeatable bid would be, until I notice several moth bites under the brim. Crestfallen, I think those won't come out by pouncing without leaving a mark. Pity. Further on, deep mothbites on top of the brim. Hopeless.
Then, a flash of hope. "Maybe I already have a Mac Forty!", so I look through my albums. "Yessss!, and perfect! No mothbites, very wide brim, almost pristine".
So here are the pics

Got the new project hat dusted off a bit and outside this morning. Looks way better in the sun than it did in the dark hallway last night lol.

Resistol Qucksilver 4x.. Big and Dark! Love the silver hatband... has a chain like design in it. Nice looking hat as-is, but plans are for a decent size pencil curl on the brim . Also thinking that Ill do a nice wider tooled leather band with Silver conchos to camouflage the crown height just a bit.. Have a selection of conchos, but may have to go hunting for some others. As tall as the crown is I actually might be able to pull off the domed Morgan Silver dollars! That would look cool but might add a couple pounds to the hat lol. Do think an engraved silver oval would look nice too. Going to be a fun project

That's a beauty, Rick. My Quicksilver was missing the iconic silver band when I bought it, so I went to horsehair. But I am REALLY enthused about seeing what you come up with in the concho department. And possibly even more excited to see it with a pencil curl!

My latest to roll up is this Knox Twenty Custom Edge. 2.75" brim, and the crown measures a hefty 5" at the front crush, and 5.25" on the sides. It’s graced with a full 2 inches of ribbon, and I peg the vintage at the late 1940s.

This is my fourth Knox, and it is ABSOLUTELY the champ among them. The felt on this one has the MOST luxurious feel of just about any hat I own.

From big brim to more modest brim today... a New Stetson Key Club Imperial has arrived. 2" brim and super nice Ultimate finish. Caribou color and really nice, clean shape. I didnt even have to brush any dust off! Ive never really been into the woven hatbands so that MAY change eventually... but for now Ill leave it alone. Maybe some new plumage. Nice little fall hat. I like ALL brimmed hats but seems lately my eye has been drawn more in the direction of the 2"- 2-1/4" brims. Big enough to be a brim, but short enough that I dont get in the way and bump it into anything!

Had to go make a second unscheduled coffee shop run of the morning just to get it out and about!

Ive decided that Stetson has a movable defination of "Caribou"..... I have 4 Stetsons in "Caribou" and theyre all different colors lol

I keep a couple of the adjustable horsehair bands just for that reason. Lifes too short for cheap hatbands lol. I do love the Quicksilver band, bit a big old hat NEEDS Silver Conchos. Love the Southwest vibe. I found some oval 1" x 1-1/4" floral engraved conchos with a brass rope braid around the edge that look interesting. Wondering what that the Quicksilver band would look like on one of the spare Black Temples instead of a ribbon???
