Glad to have triggered some fond recollections. I am not familiar with the other skit you mention - I’ll have to check it out.

Yeah, I left Florida in July, 2009 and traveled non-stop until April, 2023 when poor health demanded that I take a lease and rest. I am definitely itching to get back on the road, thanks for the encouraging words in that regard!
I’m not even sure how funny it is, but it was hilarious in my adolescent youth.

Today is a new to me Wormser Regency Series Gay Cavalier.

I left the feather in since the stitched brim and color looks more rugged to me.

Something special from my collection that I haven’t shown here before: 1940s-ish 3ply Royal DeLuxe Stetson with stars on liner and sweat.

The sweatband is toast but it’s a size too small anyway. I love the block so much that I hesitate to stretch it and install a new leather sweat. I would rather put in a cloth sweatband just so I can wear it more often - but I haven’t found a new cloth sweatband anywhere (I guess I might have to take one out of another hat?).

I don’t intend to sweat in this guy anyway - he is just about as perfect of a thin ribbon as I have so far as felt quality, block and patina are concerned. And I adore the color. But I would like to wear him more often.

Best wishes to all.

And one last photo from a few years back when I first acquired this fellow (back when my hair was still dark):

I wrote the above reply before moving onto the last page of the forum and seeing you had already found it. I can’t see it, maybe a regional restriction. Hope it was funny.

Re the sweatband, I had quite a snug hat with a clot sweatband that I didn’t like. When I sent another hat to a place in Tokyo to get some work done on it, I enquired as to whether replacing it with a leather one would make the hat smaller. They said no, so I went ahead and got it done. To my surprise, it came back, if anything, slightly less snug, which I was happy about. Now it wasn’t a top of the line sweatband. It was thin, but decent quality leather, soft, and most importantly, comfy. Maybe one of our hatters here could advise.

Interesting idea that a cheaper, thinner leather sweatband could work. I hadn’t thought of that. Definitely interesting that the cloth sweatband fit even tighter! Looks like I have research to do…

I probably wasn't paying attention, but I don’t remember seeing the 3-ply one before.
Could be that Stetson just marked it as a '3X Quality' but called it an 'Open Road' in these two separate ads(?) I dunno. Just a thought. I'm just going by what the Stetson ads are calling it.

Took possession of an old Resistol The Plains yesterday, in its original form. After wearing it out and about all day, I had to admit to myself that the short brim/taller crown looked hideous on me. My wife was right; it looked like I was wearing a child's hat. So I steamed the brim, turned it down all around, and fashioned it into a sort of Plus-size Open Road. It's in dark moss green, and I think it looks quite nice now. Anyone who wants a good laugh over how it originally looked on me, can check out the Western anyone thread for pics. Today, I wore it all day in its improved state.

Almost unrecognizable as the same hat, I agree this is a much better look.
