Biltmore Hank-a-Chif-Felt Zephyr
Soft lightweight brown felt
Approx 4 5/8 to 3 7/8 rakish crown (as shaped)
5/8 grosgrain mid-ribbon
2 1/2 brim with Raw edge

Simply because it needed the least work in cleaning up… The first of five hats that came to me from Canada is this Biltmore Hank-A-Chif Zephyr. One might think 5 hats from Canada, might mostly be heavier weight winter hats. But it appears this is the summer collection. This Zephyr is a super lightweight weight and very easily shaped felt. Similar, I would say, to a Dobbs Cross Country or the like. I love the color and profile of this hat… though I do expect it might elicit the obligatory “Hey Indy” comments. Here it appears after just a quick brushing and hand shape.

I was fortunate to inherit my great grandfather's old radio along with a photo of him listening to it. Family lore says that he was listening for news about his son during WW2. View attachment 476393 View attachment 476394
Your photo jogged an almost forgotten reminisce. My grandfather wore, what he called a trilby hat, but I now know that it was a fedora. We have some old black & white photos of grandfather in his hat, but is it not always the way, I cannot find them.

What jogged the memory is that my grandfather would place his hat on a figurine on top of the radio. He always said that coat hooks could distort the shape of the hat crown.

I can't find the photos but I do have that radio, so in grandfather's memory, this my choice of hat for the New Year dinner/dance that we are going to.

I think my great grandfather was wearing some type of railroad type of cap in the photo. But I have other photos of him wearing "standard " fedora's.

Home after a walkabout I switched hats and headed out to enjoy some coffee. I wore my new hat.

I would like to showcase my new Holiday gift. The pics on this cloudy morning are not the best, but be assured that you will see this gift being worn much more in the future.

I am wearing my Holiday gift - a vintage Stetson Playboy Air Light.

The Air Light is exactly as embossed - Air Light. The felt is soft and maleable. A big wind, or brushing the crown with your hand would change the felt shape. The felt is soft and smooth. A vintage beauty.

The festive hat box was a surprise and perfectly timed.

Cheers, Eric -
What a great and minty gift!

I went to the car wash wearing one of my brown w/black ribbon 50’s Stetsons (I like that color combination on my narrower brims). While there I got out of my Jeep and immediately broke my hip on the ice. Total hip replacement tomorrow morning.

The hat never fell off and I never even thought about it until the ambulance ride where the paramedics were saying they liked it.

Anyway y’all be careful out there if you’re in a colder climate. Ya never know.

Holy smokes—awful news! Wishing you a speedy recovery. That hat is going to get you through this thing!

I am very sorry for your loss, Bob. Beautiful choice of hat to honor your dad with. Again my deepest condolences

Bob, I'm very sorry for your loss. Please know we're all thinking of you.

Indeed, cherish the memories Bob, pray for your father, take a deep breath. My condolences to you.

I am so sorry reading the news you shared about your father. May the memories of your father help you today and for the years to come. Condolences.

Eric -

So sorry for you loss, Bob.

Sorry for your loss, Bob.

Condolences Bob :-(

I’m very sorry for your loss, and the hat is wonderful.

So sorry for your loss, Bob.

May your father rest in peace and the good times of his memory live on in your mind and heart.

Thank you all! A tough day, but filled with lots of memories. It was good to see the family and friends we don't get to see that often and to meet new people that had interacted with my Dad in some fashion. Dad's interment in the National Cemetery will be tomorrow and the weather is cooperating nicely with a forecast in the mid-60s.

I appreciate all the kind words and thoughts. It means a lot. You are a great group to hang with.
