So we hit December in Japan.

I know it’s early for Stingymas, but since I’ll be in New Zealand with only one or two hats, I won’t get to participate. So I figured I would share my modest collection of stingy brims in the lead up to the main event.

First up, a Daniele Tanto special. The Véritable Feutre de Poil. A French hat from an unknown maker with a sweatband and ribbon from Penumbra hats. The heathered felt is a fur/wool blend.

5.5cm brim. Stingy enough to qualify, Joe?

Good morning folks.

A morning walkabout wearing a Mallory homburg. This inky blue felt is showcased by the burgandy trim. A very classy look that better shows up in daylight.

A switched to a different homburg for some shoveling. The Dobbs homburg is certainly a unique green felt.

After the efforts the homburg went on a hat block to dry out and I switched to a Stetson Vogue to fill feeders and move some cut wood.

Lovely granite fedora and complimented by the dynamite vista in the background.

Mallory Coast to Coast - Dark Grey Brown
4 3/4 - 3 7/8 rakish crown
1 5/8 pewter grosgrain ribbon
2 3/8 brim with 3/8 bound edge

Thanks go out to @DaveProc for the tip on this Mallory Coast to Coast and a fairly dark grey brown felt. Having seen Jim’s @Frunobulax C2C I knew I wouldn’t go wrong with this buy. This I believe would be later 50s considering the card stock size tag and slightly shorter brim at 2 3/8. The dark taupe felt is offset ever so slightly with a pewter grosgrain ribbon and brim binding. The crown still sports what appears to be its factory tear drop and rakish crease. Mallory are among my favorites and I do have a few with similar (Whippet-ish) styling but none with the C2C designation or this coloring so this will fit in nicely.

Mallory must have made some great hats because every time I see one the felt quality looks so damn good! I never see them for sale either.

That hat look BRAND new. I love seeing the old ones that were never out of the box. I bought a Resistol 125x western that was that way. I’ve worn it for about 4 years and it definitely shows but it’s Christmas morning as a kid feeling when you receive an old one that looks untouched.

I have a soft spot for olive green felt, too. Black Sheep Hat Works, with the handy dandy hat-holding hanger.

Esther's Strat-a-like or: The bespoke grey by the ladies at Gamble & Gunn.
Sorry Esther, but Tina chose the latter, so G & G it is.
View attachment 468764 View attachment 468765
Has anyone seen The "Pure Stratoliner?" It is gorgeous but I
reckon Esther nailed it. And she didn't charge me anything
like the Stetson asking price of $410. All the same I do rather
like the alabaster Strat. $410 though. Perhaps if I said it in
Stirling at £340, it sounds less.

Depend on GHT for some classy pairings of fedora and mens clothing. Your Esther fedora is a special hat indeed.

Late home from a seminar. Pictures taken in a basement.

Battersby Bowler via our favourite Dutch enabler was my hat of choice.

You make wearing a bowler appear to be cool. The liner of this one is special.

Wearing my BB 5X today and coming home in the dark, stupid short days. Winter is coming, it's starting to snow.

I admire the Coast To Coast. That is a sharp hat. Mallory made some darn fine hats into the 50's.

After doing some afternoon chores; my family and I went out walking this past weekend. I wore my “workhorse” Stratoliner.

A few days ago my friend Stefan asked me to decipher a paper label of a Borsalino.
Destrina 3.jpg
The color "Destrina - Dextrin", I assume was his curiosity
Destrina 2a.jpg
Ascertained that Borsalino used this color, I remembered that I have a hat of this color. Here it is.
Destrina interno.jpg
To be exact it is a "modern" G.B. Borsalino fu Lazzaro".
Destrina etichetta carta.jpg
Size 6 (French point) or 59 cm. in US a 7 3/8.
It comes from a deposit found a few years ago near Ferrara, the result of the closure of a hat shop
Destrina 7.jpg

I found the hat together with others built in the 60s and 70. In the next days I will show them to you because even in this period there were some small masterpieces ;-)
Destrina 6.jpg
Have a nice day and thanks for your like.
