What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

I'm not sure what it is about this Portis that I like so much. It isn't particularly old, or rare, nothing fancy, and wasn't expensive. It just simply feels good when I put it on, It gives me comfort when I wear it.

Great hats, as usual, Stefan. I liked the new Borsalino Farotto Malva in the Borsalino Brotherhood thread, but love it seeing it worn. Such a great hat and I don’t see anything feminine about it as worn.

I love the sahara fedora with curled brims. The pics of your hat makes me yearn for a similar hat. Your wife's hat is grand and I like the ribbon treatment. I showed pics to my wife and she is unconvinced that she could wear such a hat. I am working on her. Thank your wife for the motivating pics.

Morning dog soirre in a Brock fedora. Lovely blue hat for a cool morning.

After arriving home I strolled through the snowy yard in a blue Playboy enjoying a cup of coffee. The Air Light Playboy version is exactly as advertised - light.

Snow shoveling time was spent under a Stetson Stratoliner. Glorious unlined hat that I need to be careful of wearing. I like this hat and need to be careful of wearing it to an early demise. Thank goodness I have a couple of the sage Stratoliners so I can rotate between them.

Lee Hats - White Label - Gay Prince styling
Very light silver felt with Velvet texture finish
5 inch crown with center dent (about 5 1/2 open)
2 5/8 brim with GP inspired slash/dash binding
7/8 self felted band with matching slash/dash pattern

This is the bell of the ball of the three hats to arrive yesterday. While the other two might not be too much to write home about, this one steals the show. I believe this my first Lee White label and I have never come across a Lee with this type of styling. I do own two Dobbs Gay Prince hats which this Lee is modeled after, which makes a great point of reference for me. As many brands did make their own attempt to copy the GP styling it does not surprise me that Lee made this offering. What does surprise me is how much they got right! First they chose to go with an alternating whip stitch and saddle stitch for the edge biding creating an appealing slash dash pattern a sort of GP upgrade. However beyond the visual aspect of the brim binding and self felted band. Lee went above and beyond with the felt finish. The GP hats generally have a very thin extremely short hair velvety finish. A quality of felt I haven’t really come across on too many other hats. Lee came VERY close here. Especially with what I am assuming a mid to late 50s hat. (Which I am basing on the later Lee logo… not sure when the change was made). Probably not same felt as my 40s GP but very similar to my 50s. The moths seem to agree as there are quite a number of small moth divots and tracks along the top of the brim but they really do not take away from the beauty of this hat. The color is an absolutely beautiful very light silver. The original price tag had this one retailing at $15. It came in a very cool Lee hats box. I’m really enjoying this rare unusual treasure. Thanks to Bob for the heads up on this one.

Good morning. I wore a charcoal Gannon Wanderer out for a dog soirre. The morning light just before sunrise makes grabbing a hat pic challenging. The hat is really charcoal and has no purple hues in the felt.

Knox Premier. This is the only hat I consistently wear brim up. Just love the profile it creates that, to me, looks kind of 1920s, even though the hat is definitely post-war. Maybe for that reason I think of it as my old man hat—the one I’ll be wearing to feed the pigeons in the park in a few years.

Feeling lucky again. Scored an incredible deal on this Knox One Hundred “custom edge”. Color is light tan. While the case is missing a few items and is well worn- this hat, on the other hand, is in like new condition. Would love to hear your thoughts on this, as I haven’t seen too many. I will add this to the Knox thread.

Congrats on this incredible score. The moment I saw the hat I thought it had to be a Knox. Can't exactly say why though. From those in the know (not me unfortunately) it is considered one of the finest hats around.

This Vita Felt hat (as per liner markings) has a reminder on the sweat that it under went the Vida Felt Process. The sweat is marked Playboy in a terrific font. Dynamite.

Home for a walkabout sipping coffee I changed to a Stetson Startoliner in a nutmeg kind of felt hue. The Stetson name for the felt hue escapes me this morning.

I headed out to run my wife's auto thru the car wash and popped a Stetson Whippet on my head. Yup my pics are actually of a Stetson Whippet. It is the 60's Australian stingy version of the Whippet. Truly a Whippet is not a Whippet.
