What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Kind of a maiden voyage for the Aubergine Rabbit Lord's Hat. One of my more unusual custom creations by Mike Miller of NW Hats. The Lord's hat is a homburg that is "dressed down" for casual wear by not having an edge binding. The long hair finish is really special, called melusine. Styled from a hat on Downton Abby.

Gooood morning hat folks. Thanks for sharing your hats and for the likes for my hat wearing escapades yesterday.

Yesterday late afternoon and evening I was wearing a Gannon Wanderer (granite beaver with charcoal ribbon trimmings).

This mornings dog soirre was enjoyed in a Stetson Open Road 3X. I have this fedora in a tugboat crease. IMO, it works great with this hat.

Some early morning coffee in a Stetson Sovereign Twenty Open Road. IMO, a gentle diamond crease works better with this hat.

1940s Marathon Whippet clone. Definitely my most film noir hat, with a 5 3/4 open crown and 2 5/8 brim.

Classic look. I really like the brim binding on that one.

Wearing today a pre-WWII Barbisio... made with "rat-gondin" or in modern French, ragondin, or even more attractively, nutria. It's a wonderful hat imprinted with French descriptive - the international language of fashion not spoken by many in Bulgaria.

I agree, Brent. Nutria, even in old hats, doesn't have a very nice hand, in my opinion.
I am glad you said it.

I’ve only handled a few vintage nutria hats. The Stetsons and the one Barbisio didn’t have impressive hands. These Sunrise nutria felts can be given a fine finish and are very smooth, but I think that beaver still shades them…even if just by a small amount. Michael Gannon had the same opinion where he was impressed but still thought Winchester’s beaver bodies made overall nicer hats. So far, I much prefer the Sunrise nutria over Winchester’s beaver when talking about western hats. Both Gannon and Mike at Northwest are trying to address the deficiencies in Winchester western weight beaver and the hats should be arriving before Christmas. Time will tell.

Truth be told, if vintage hats were easier to find in my size I don’t think I would ever have gone the custom route.

Not my experience with nutria to be honest, but I have to admit almost all the ones I've handled were done by Borsalino. But also the ones done by Willoughby and Tirard do have a nice hand to them. I have one Chisnall that is a nutria chamois finish that I think could have been better in other felt.

J. Hückel´s Söhne Standard "Loden" possibly late 1920s. Felt is a mix of colors with a rougher natural finish and easily dry creases. Wide Band / Bow with a blind stitch Over Welt. This hat is from my May 2016 NOS Czech find.

Inspired by Eric’s @Short Balding Guy Royal St. Regis from yesterday, I rebashed my St. Regis this morning.

The felt easily holds a dry bash. Eric, I notice that the crown on your Royal seems higher than my Royal DeLuxe. It would be interesting to do a side-by-side comparison. I think they are both from the same era.
