Yes. Charged me just under $175 for the conversion. I also bought another horse hair band for a different hat and had him reshape a beaver western hat. Grand total $200. :)
Thanks, I ask because I have a decent quality milan that is coming apart at the crown to brim break. I don’t have it in me to toss it out. Your conversion sounds like a good solution.

Protype of hat for when ill start making hats, the original is a Maidana orion. The black one is the original, or is too much curled?

David at Texas Hatter told me the straw part needs to be a size or 2 larger than your actual hat size as he needs the extra material to properly secure the straw to the felt. Also, he said some straws may fray or come apart when he cuts them. He told me upfront he never did this with vintage hats. The way he forms the straw crown is with a lacquer stiffener to shape it. The brim is soft and shapable. The crown is not. He said some hatters have special steamers that can form and shape the straw crown so the straw stays flexible. He does not, so he uses a stiffener. At least that's my understanding of his process. :)

Yes, I ordered it from Australia. It took about 10 days. I’ve ordered several hats from Hats Direct (The Hattery) and Everything Australian and they’re always smooth transactions. Hit and miss using Hats by the Hundred.
Thanks for the info, I'll check out the suppliers mentioned. I like the looks of those and I like a wide brimmed hat. I don't have any Akubra hats and definitely would like to add one to the collection

Small sample size for me. My first order was Hats by the Hundred and I was very happy with them. I would have got my Campdraft from them, too, but I decided to order a Fed IV at the same time, so it had to be The Hattery. Both were excellent with my orders.
