What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Another favorite with a Cavanagh edge brim getting some on head time today. This Rogers-Peet Trivley made by MacLachlan came to me via Brent @deadlyhandsome It was one of my first opportunities to experience a big tall soft crown that can take just about any crease easily. Love the felt on this one and it’s slightly lavender hue that shows depending on light.

I rescued this modern day fedora off of EBay about two years ago. I just liked the way it looked. It’s not their top of the line. It smelled of smoke and had a wavey brim, but with a good steaming and some brim stiffener it has now become one of my favorite grab and go hats.

Every beater should look that good!

The landscapers are finally here to rebuild my koi pond waterfall. I have had a leak for quite a while and they did some patching. The wait for them to finish has been a real problem, my Koi have been suffering in a pea green soup. Since the labor shortage due to Covid, the landscape company has been hit hard. They keep putting off jobs like mine to do the big projects that make them more money...I'm not happy. Since they only have one guy out there trying to move rocks and set it back up, I have been out helping where I can. So...this is a perfect day for my beater SLS stingy. Love this hat, grab and go for yard work.

Staying with the Cavanagh brims or Guild edge as it is called on this 1950s Dobbs fifteen dollar hat. Could probably use another month or two of cooling off for this black felt… but the lower humidity this week had me itching to bring out this black beauty

Just for fun… Decided to throw in a quick ace deuce trace - x crease on this Rogers-Pete as another example of how malleable the felt is

Late in the day to post it I reckon but I wore another of my working hats today. This one is a renegade by rebelution of Texas. Can't really find any information about the company as all that comes up is a current line of hats by Bailey. Hat has a 5 inch brim and matching band and edge binding. Bought at a thrift shop it was already a gus crown but it's since aquired plenty of character. Don't think it ever was a high quality hat, but I like it.

That is on my list to do...just haven't found the hat nor the time.....but it is on the list. Great example.
Thanks Robert. Definitely want to use one with plenty of crown to work with. As usual best to work with a soft crown. But I also saw a gimmick where you just kinda pop it into a firmer pre formed center dent crown.
