Day 3 of our 3 day trip
We visited the World Heritage villages of Gokayama - Ainokura and Suganuma. .

Lovely photos and hats - how incredible is that - I was there with my family two weeks ago - though we visited another village - Shirakawa-go, on our way to Kanazawa, after visiting Hida-Takayama, then onto Toyama and Niigata.

Lovely photos and hats - how incredible is that - I was there with my family two weeks ago - though we visited another village - Shirakawa-go, on our way to Kanazawa, after visiting Hida-Takayama, then onto Toyama and Niigata.

I took my parents to Shirakawa-go when they were over here a few years back. We had snow then, which was also spectacular.

Day 3 of our 3 day trip saw us in the same hats as day 1 (My wife would only allow me the two hats). I, in my Stetson Custom V and my wife in her Maxim.
We visited the World Heritage villages of Gokayama - Ainokura and Suganuma. This is deep in the mountains of Toyama prefecture (although, thanks to the 11km and 13km tunnels, it's not too difficult to get there.
The travel guide says "They are famous for their traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses, some of which are more than 250 years old. Gassho-zukuri means "constructed like hands in prayer", as the farmhouses' steep thatched roofs resemble the hands of Buddhist monks pressed together in prayer. The architectural style developed over many generations and is designed to withstand the large amounts of heavy snow that falls in the region during winter. The roofs, made without nails, provided a large attic space used for cultivating silkworms."
When the roofs need rethatching, the whole village comes together to do it - quite a spectacular sight in itself.
The houses were spectacular against the magnificent background of the autumn mountains.

I was sorely tempted to pick up one of these hats, just for the sake of posting it on the Lounge! In the end I decided to save my money.

All in all, it was a great little trip to a beautiful part of the world. Highly recommended if you're looking for a place to visit once international travel is possible again.

Great scenery photos, and nice hats, too. I was fortunate to spend a couple of autumn weeks the Kansai region some number of years back. Beautiful countryside.

I’m in Kansai. It’s an area I love. Some beautiful countryside, amazing culture and fun cities...just a serious lack of decent hat shops.

It's an easy place to love. I headquartered in Kishiwada-City on my trips there, but took side trips to Kyoto, Nara, Shirahama and Kobe. And spent many days and nights in Osaka. Over the years I got to see all four seasons from cherry blossom to Donjiri festival. ha ha. I think the only hat I had back then was a tan cloth Indiana Jones hat from Disneyworld.

The Danjiri festival is lots of fun, and they really go nuts over it in Kishiwada. I lived in Kyoto for a year and a half and Osaka for just over 4 years before heading to Shikoku for a few years - I'm pretty settled in Wakayama (where Shirahama is located) now. It's quiet, with clean air, hiking, camping etc but close enough to the big city that it's easy enough to head over there for some less savoury fun!

Very nice. I worked for several years at a cemetery and I was very accustomed to the 80's Ford backhoe we had. I miss that thing. Shortly after I left, they replaced it with a New Holland. These newfangled machines these days are nice I guess, but that old Ford was my baby, and I can't believe I just said something like that about a Ford!

Yes, Danjiri is a crazy time. I was in the Sakaimachi district and got to go for a closeup inspection of the local danjiri as they were readying it for the running. I donated some money to the cause and as a consequence got invited to some after the run parties. All I can say about that is that I'm glad I didn't have far to crawl home. Ha ha. It's possible I visited Wakayama the first time I was over. I had an all rails pass that time and we went a lot of places for day trips.

Beautiful serene countryside and then the nightlife and people watching around Namba station is a whole other world. It has it all.

Except hats apparently. Ha ha.

Some technical problems kept me away from FL, solved here I am with a Panizza made in Italy and sold in Stuttgart.

Autumn has come strongly, but with mild temperatures. It is not "the cold summer of the Souls" as an Italian poem used to say.

Super Panizza size is 59 cm. and the color of felt is "Blue Notte" Interesting weight and very malleable

We are facing the second wave of the pandemic. As always, you have to be confident in life

Very nice indeed, beautiful colour and just a stunning lid and I like the ribbon/binding work. I really like the twist 'n flare of colour on the ribbon stay, nice...More I look at it the more I like it, very easy on the eye.

I wore my Habig to work again, but it has been frustrating me. It’s just a little big for me. Every time I put paper or sizing tape, I think I’ve got it right...then it decides otherwise. I came to the conclusion that for a hat with a moderate crown, the center dent was too deep for my cone-head. So tonight, I finally took the plunge and reshaped a crown for the first time.

An attempt to widen the dent and create a teardrop with a bump for the cone-head. I also tightened up the pinches. It seems good so far. I’m feeling optimistic, but we’ll have to wait and see.

I've got a similar shaped nogging myself, I've found a more open type crown with a high center and/or high back of the top of crown fits me best, I often have a problem with some crowns being too low at the back which makes it hard for a center crease with a lower back not able to work for me... Wonderful thing about life that we're all different in ways.

Good job on the re-shaping of the crown, looks very tidy too with the tighter pinch. I like it
