What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Good morning gents. My first nice hat, and first real post to the hat side of TFL. Discovered I’m between a 7 1/8 and 7 1/4 in this style. Fiddling with the foam tape to get the fit right.

I’ll be wearing it all day today outside of my working hours

Yes, Open Road in Silverbelly.

A realization that many of y’all have probably had- the color is less light silver/gray than it is light taupe/gray

I'm home in recovery from a completely successful surgical adventure. The downtime has given me more time to follow the conversations here, and I am delighted to report the resulting transfer of custodianship from Brent to me of this (instant favorite!!) 1950s (?) Cavanagh classic, in size 7-7/8!!!!! It fits nearly like a custom, right out of the box, too. I don't know if you had an opportunity to put an accurate date on this one, Brent, but the age markers are mixed, if not hazy. At the moment I am thinking circa 1953, based mostly on the sweatband and production tag factors. Then, there is the liner graphic...

I agree that it was after 1971, but I don’t think it was necessarily in 1971. I’ve read that the combo size tag was in use by the early 1980s, but nothing definitive on when it first came into use. I think it was in the later 1970s, but that’s just anecdotal based on some of the hats I’ve owned.

Good to see you, Charlie and I am glad things went your way. Good looking Cav and I still don’t see how you hold that thing upright. I think it was @40Cal who told me it was 53 when they started printing Cavanagh on the front of the sweat.

Thanks, Brent. That Dobbs is indeed quite the hat. Dobbs deserves some more recognition as a maker, I feel. They did make some outstanding hats/models in their heyday.
